Lula was only 33 when he led the strike alongside the metalworkers’ union that challenged Brazil’s military dictatorship. He secured wage increases and was imprisoned.
His rival, the far-right Flávio Bolsonaro, on the other hand, has had only one occupation since the age of 21: spending his wealthy family’s money and engaging in far-right thuggery.

Finally, India Today admits that they were part of a hit job against @newsclickin , making false claims of Chinese funding , which led to the jailing of editor Prabir Purkayastha and the shutting down of operations of one of India's best independent news websites, which platformed all workers' protests ignored by the mainstream media. Amid this, one of the intolerant sanghi anchors continues go shout and interrupt.

A sad loss. His jovial company made my time at The Hindu memorable. A fine editor who brought colour and precision to our hastily put together pieces. Rest in peace

PK Sir was an incredible person and a terrific colleague, he edited copies with precision and a feather-touch, never had itchy fingers - the compulsion to rewrite without any reason, as writers/reporters we trusted him, and he had a wicked sense of humour, he will be missed...

Since everyone has an opinion on Sharjeel, often without reading him, this is a superb primer on his politics.

ANI won't tell you that the chairman of this committee is a BJP MLA. Because they want to portray it as if common people are angry against CJP.

welcome to bizzaro world 2026 where going after weapons makers and banks is a form of racism, something that is objectively insane and something that objectively violates the most basic intellectual honesty but nonetheless something we have to take seriously as a liberal conceit
NYC Council Speaker Julie Menin on this morning’s vandalism of a Capital One branch on the Upper East Side, where windows were smashed and graffiti reading “DROP ELBIT” and “PAL ACTION” was left on the entrance:
“What the NYPD is doing now is they're investigating it as a hate crime. They're gonna do a fast investigation; we appreciate their work on this, and the community is deeply concerned and upset about it.”

From Prof Biswajit Dhar, a resident of Chittaranjan Park: Yesterday (Saturday 17 October) evening, about 20 CRPF jawans armed with lathis marched into the B Block Puja Pandal in CR Park at 11.30 pm, when large number of people were celebrating the festival with family and friends. The Puja Committee members strongly protested against this intrusion and chased them out. I took this video when they were outside the main gate. Several of us lent our voices in support of the Puja Committee members arguing that any police interference in our most important festival was just not acceptable. Durga Puja is not a festival for only the Bengalis, but all other communities also get together to enjoy themselves. This is what I have seen for as long I can remember. Why then were paramilitary forces sent to spoil the atmosphere in such a festival? Should we now expect intimidation by the paramilitary forces whenever we congregate? We must demand answers before it is too late.
