It's been an historically remarkable weekend as British Columbia elects its first conservative government since 2013.

Yet these are Conservatives remember guys. Blame it all on racism.

Conservatives: “we want to supercharge BC’s economy by building homes!”
Also Conservatives: “we don’t want to change existing neighbourhoods.”
BC friends. Looks like local planning is back on the table after yesterday:
Grok: What did the bc conservatives say about repealing bill 44???
The BC Conservatives have consistently opposed Bill 44 and said they would repeal (or get rid of) it.
Bill 44 (Housing Statutes Amendment Act, 2023) is the NDP law that requires most municipalities to allow small-scale multi-unit housing (typically 3–6 units) on lots that were previously limited to single-family homes or duplexes, with limited local ability to say no.
Key statements
2024 (under John Rustad): Rustad explicitly said “We are going to get rid of Bill 44” and described the provincial mandates as an “authoritarian approach by… a hardcore socialist government.” The party’s 2024 platform promised to repeal Bill 44 (while allowing municipalities that wanted the changes to continue them) and to shift more zoning authority back to local governments. He also said municipalities that preferred to keep single-family zoning should be free to do so.
2026 campaign (under Lorne Doerkson): The platform does not name a full statutory repeal of Bill 44 in the summaries available, but it strongly emphasizes local control. It states that “Where the density goes and what it looks like needs to be a decision of local government and local residents, not bureaucrats in Victoria.” Doerkson said in the leaders’ debate that “there is no way that David Eby or anybody else in Victoria should be demanding what municipalities build where and how.” The platform focuses on aligning zoning with official community plans and working with municipalities rather than imposing provincial mandates.
Candidate and party messaging during the 2026 campaign (including from Stan Sipos) stated that “The Conservative Party has made it clear that Bill 44 will be repealed” and that local governments and communities should decide density, not Victoria.
In short, the party’s longstanding position has been to end the province-wide forced upzoning rules in Bill 44 and restore greater municipal autonomy over land-use decisions. Existing rules stay in force until the legislature passes new legislation.

The BC Poli discourse outside of this province is flat wrong:
1) Saying the Conservatives won for first time in 100 years is misnomer. Right wing parties have ruled day historically. Social Credit Party. The B.C. liberals were right centre mix. Heavy on right.
2) BC isn’t as left wing as you think it is. The urban rural divide is real. I was born, raised and live in Abbotsford. We are hour away from Vancouver and we are pretty hard right wing. As an example.

Only 48% of BC voters supported the BC Conservatives, yet the voting system has handed Lorne Doerkson's Conservatives 69% of the seats and 100% of the power.

Also, it has to be said.
This is @angeloisidorou ultimate triumph.
From restarting the party in a basement a few years ago, to managing the 2024 campaign that brought us to the doorstep of government, to now being Chief Strategist on our ultimate victory in 2026.
Love you man.

Nenshi: "We need to take away democratic rights to stop the separatist threat from coming back to finish us off!"
Nenshi should just admit nobody likes his policies. All he has is pretending only he can protect us all from Alberta being taken out of Canada.
It has a hair less than 1/4 support. I don't think we need Naheed Nenshi to protect us from the separatist tide...
Nenshi said laws around petitions will have to change to avoid another referendum calgaryherald.com/news/nensh…

Encouraging to see @Conservative_BC Leader @LDoerkson open-minded on proportional representation.
As a former BC United MLA, he knows how vote-splitting hurts the right.
@Dave_Eby is now the only leader ruling out PR, despite asking BC Greens to vote NDP for "shared values."

Supporters of the BC NDP and the Green Party share a lot of the same values. Strong public health care, protecting the place we call home, and asking the wealthiest to chip in more to build a stronger B.C.
That’s why we're asking for your support and your vote to stop Conservative cuts, higher costs and chaos.
If we stand together, we can build B.C. strong.

I was on board with the NDP this morning until Eby started attacking Lowan with an absurd accusation she'll back the cons opposing prop rep.
These are core beliefs of mine and I will not ignore. Eby has completely lost the plot and I cannot endorse that.
