Feels like the market is missing this point. DKNG is positioned be the preeminent sports book with or without prediction markets
DraftKings CEO Jason Robins says the company is in a “win-win spot,” unlike most prediction markets or sportsbooks, where it should succeed regardless of how the Supreme Court views sports event contracts.
“If [sports contracts are] the whole business, which for us it is not, then that's obviously critical. There's nothing to look out to if the entire sports business is gone,” Robins said.
“On the other side, if you haven't done what we've done and invested and put ourselves in a position where we're meeting players in predictions now, then if a court decision goes the positive way, then that's a pretty tough spot to be in.

I had no idea @RalstonReports was writing this. I’m grateful to Jon for bringing into the Indy, which allowed me to work with an amazing team of journalists.
I’ve got a few more stories left before I put a -30- on the career.
Thanks, old friend.

Wild times
First time being sued. With a bunch of claims like “fraud”, “scheme”, “conspiracy”, etc. Apparently the Aristotle folks are unhappy with the money they’re making from the sale of their licenses, even though they will end up making more than anyone else in our sale to IG. They’re trying to extract more. They told me as much when I called to tell them about our deal and how it was going to get them the liquidity they were so desperately seeking. They said give us some more or we won’t sign. They thought they had leverage and they could hold up the deal to get more for themselves. They didn’t and they still don’t. They’re going to rack up a bunch of legal fees, create noise, but otherwise accomplish nothing. The deal will proceed and I have no doubt they will lose in court if they decide to take it that far. It’s a bummer there are people out there who do things like this.
Nevada 100% is time for a dedicated business court. The reasons are not simply economic (although important); a dedicated business court will strengthen the overall ecosystem for business in Nevada.
Nevada business reporters should note the difference in the comments from the two candidates for Secretary of State concerning the creation of a Nevada business court (last question in the story).

This is an interesting turn on the ever evolving data landscape.
1. What's the status of scraping publicly available information? Do we have yellow page status in sports - if so, where is this data and which countries?
2. @charlesgillespi No. 2 is quite interesting lens...
The inexplicable and breathlessly hypocritical lawsuit from @swishanalytics against OddsJam and OpticOdds may go down as the single biggest own-goal in the history of the online gambling industry.
We never paid much attention to Swish, until they forced us to with their lawsuit. That has now led us to pursue claims against them for violating the Cartwright Act, California’s premier anti-trust law, from their base in San Francisco. The lawsuit that they filed against us now poses an existential threat to their own business. Well done Swish!

This is great! The long history of punishing those who make a living (at any level) from playing games or taking on risk in the gaming industry - is antithetical.
Perhaps there's another area where this is the same (?). Professional athletes, musicians, traders....

we talked about predicting rotten tomatoes scores, susquehanna, how awesome Notion is, foreign elections, cargo ships and so much more. always so fun chatting with @johncoogan and @jordihays!
Hedge funds are trying and failing to hire prediction market sharps.
"We are just getting crushed by these sharps," said Susquehanna's Jeff Yass.
@iscoe tells the story of a guy who's made 7 figures trading Rotten Tomatoes betting markets, and rejected an offer from SIG:
"He said, 'Not only am I just making a killing, but I can do things that a big institutional fund can't do.'"
"He's a Rotten Tomatoes trader. He trades how a film's going to do on Rotten Tomatoes. He's made 7 figures, easily. He's building models, scraping websites, and he's doing things that SIG, through their corporate policies, maybe wouldn't allow."
"And he asked in the interview, 'Could I do this technique?' And they said, 'Yeah, probably not.'"
"And this guy, he self-describes as a 'dips**t from the Midwest.' He's like, 'I didn't go to an Ivy League school, and I'm able to outcompete Wall Street with a $600 Lenovo laptop.'"
From his appearance on the show last month.
