Truth & Consequences: Navigating the 2026 House Legislative Session, A Rhode House Minority Report, RI Education Accountability
For too long, Rhode Islandโs answer to poor education outcomes has been to spend more money, not demand better results.
Bottom Line: Unfunded state education mandates increase costs, limit local decision-making, and can pull resources from the classroom. Every child deserves a strong education, every parent deserves a voice, and every taxpayer deserves proof that education dollars are producing results.
RI spends approximately $20,315 per student, among the highest levels in the nation, yet reading and math proficiency scores remain low.

Truth & Consequences: Navigating the 2026 House Legislative Session, A Rhode House Minority Report, RI Business Climate and Regulatory Burdens
Rhode Islandโs business climate is under performing, and small businesses are carrying the weight of higher costs, mandates, and regulations.
Bottom Line: Rhode Island cannot grow if state government keeps making it harder to hire, invest, compete, and do business here.
Among New England states, Rhode Island ranks worst for starting a business, and ranks 50th nationwide โ demonstrating how difficult the state has made it for entrepreneurs and small businesses to launch, grow and compete.

Truth & Consequences: Navigating the 2026 House Legislative Session, A Rhode House Minority Report, RI Healthcare Access and Affordability
Today, Rhode Island has a shortage of approximately 300 physicians, leaving an estimated 343,000 residents without adequate access to healthcare.
Bottom Line: Rhode Islanders are paying more for healthcare, while too many families struggle to find accessible care.
The stateโs Medicaid match consumes 34.5% of Rhode Islandโs revenue spending, compared with 65.5% for all other major government services combined.

Truth & Consequences: Navigating the 2026 House Legislative Session, A Rhode House Minority Report - RI Housing Affordability
Despite years of public spending and voter-approved housing bonds, Rhode Island remains one of the least affordable states to rent, buy or raise a family.
Bottom Line: Housing costs determine whether families stay, businesses can hire, and the next generation can afford to build a life in Rhode Island.
From 2006- 2021, Rhode Island voters approved more than $165M in Housing Bonds. Those funds helped create and rehabilitate ONLY 4,007 state-funded affordable homes in 15 years.

ENERGY REFORM
Truth & Consequences: Navigating the 2026 House Legislative Session, A Rhode House Minority Report โ RI Energy Reform
Rhode Island families and businesses are paying electricity rates that are amongst the highest in the nation, while state energy mandates and taxes continue to add pressure to monthly bills.
Bottom Line: Rhode Islanders deserve reliable power at prices families and businesses can afford. High energy costs are putting ever-increasing pressure on household budgets.
The average residential retail electricity prices in Rhode Island generally increased between 2020 and 2025, by approximately 34%

Truth & Consequences: Navigating the 2026 House Legislative Session, A Rhode House Minority Report โ RI Fiscal Expansion and New Taxes
Rhode Islanders are paying more in taxes while ranking 13th in the highest costs of living.
Bottom Line: Before asking Rhode Islanders to pay higher taxes, state government should be required to control spending, root out waste and prove it is using taxpayer dollars wisely.
In just 7 years, cumulative tax dollars that provide the funding needed to support the state budget for government programs, services and operations has increased 47.61%. This is not sustainable.

7. FALLING BEHIND I
Rhode Island House Republicans this week unveiled a 17-page online report about the 2026 session. The document said it examined what was passed by Democrats, the cost, and the alternative proposed by Republicans. According to the summary, โIn the 2026 session of the Rhode Island General Assembly, the Democratic supermajority had the power to make the state more affordable, more accountable, and easier to live in. Too often, they chose a different path: higher spending, new taxes and fees, expanded mandates, and policies that will make life more expensive for families, seniors, small businesses, and taxpayers. Supporters described these measures as progress. House Republicans asked the harder questions: What will they cost? Who will pay? And will they actually solve the problem?โ

Launched Online: Truth & Consequences โ A Rhode Island House Minority Report on the 2026 Legislative Session
State House, Prov โ Today, the RI House Republican Caucus released a new annual report โTruth & Consequences โ Navigating the 2026 House Legislative Session.โ The report details important public policies, highlights legislation the Democratic majority passed, identifies the costs, or consequences for RI taxpayers, and what the House Minority Caucus proposed instead. This report does not revisit every vote. It focuses on the gap between the rhetoric and the reality โ what was promised, what was passed, and what Rhode Islanders are likely to pay in higher costs, fewer opportunities, reduced affordability, and weaker accountability.
During the 2026 Session, House Republicans offered alternatives focused on spending caps, meaningful tax relief, expanded healthcare access, pro-growth policies, and stronger public safety. Most of those proposals were sidelined.
โRhode Islanders deserve more than slogans and promises - they deserve to know what their state government is costing them and what they get in return for that cost,โ said Rhode Island House Minority Leader Michael Chippendale. โThis report takes an honest look at the priorities of the super-majority during the 2026 legislative session and the real-life consequences that our families, taxpayers and businesses face because of them. We also share the alternatives House Republicans put forward. Whether the issue is taxes, energy, housing, healthcare, education, or government accountability - our focus continues to remain on making RI more affordable, more accountable, and a place where people can build a future instead of being priced out of the state altogether.โ

Exciting News!
Rhode Island House Representatives Chippendale, Santucci and Place Announce $45,000 USDA Grant for Glocester Police Department
STATE HOUSE, Providence โ Rhode Island House Minority Leader Michael Chippendale @MikeWChip, Representative Paul Santucci and Representative @DavidPlace01 today announced the approval of a $45,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development ( @USDA ) Grant for facility upgrades to the Glocester Police Department.
After touring the police department with newly appointed Glocester Police Chief Jeffrey Jennison and seeing the facilityโs needs firsthand, Chippendale and Santucci reached out to their federal partners at USDA Rural Development to identify potential funding assistance for the town. The representatives connected Glocester officials with the USDA Community Facilities program, and House Minority Office staff worked with the town to complete the formal application. USDA notified the delegation today (Tuesday, September 29th) that the application had been approved and that $45,000 in grant funding is ready to be obligated.
โThis is exactly the kind of result we want to deliver for the communities we represent,โ said House Minority Leader Michael Chippendale. โAfter touring the department with Chief Jennison and seeing the need firsthand, Paul and I immediately began looking for a way to help. We brought the concern to our federal partners at USDA, our staff worked with the town through the application process, and Iโm very pleased that effort has resulted in $45,000 coming back to Glocester.โ
Representative Paul Santucci said the grant demonstrates the value of connecting local needs with available federal resources: โWhen we saw the conditions at the police department, we immediately started looking for resources that could support renovations. This funding will help Glocester address an important public safety facility improvement without putting the entire burden on local taxpayers.โ
Representative David Place joined Chippendale and Santucci in welcoming the investment in the Glocester Police Department as a member of the townโs legislative delegation.
The USDA Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program provides funding to rural communities for essential public facilities, including police and other public-safety facilities.
Chippendale and Santucci thanked USDA Rural Development officials, Chief Jennison and town officials for their cooperation throughout the process.

Just say NO to socialized medicine, and government offered "dying with dignity" - aka, government compelled suicide. First it's stage 4 cancer, then elderly, then disabled...
This Canadian woman was given MAID as her only choice for stage 4 cancer in Deathcare Canada. She went to the US and death was not the option the doctors there gave her.
Canadian healthcare used to be good, it is now in desperate fear of collapse. They're bringing in doctors who did not study in Canada and whatever else that entails.
I find the healthcare in the US unquestionably superior. Health insurance is the same since I don't pay income tax in Florida, I pay it on insurance. There is immediate, private healthcare if you need it.
Medically assisted suicide is not an option they offer.
