We’re bringing a new community center to Jackson Heights! Proud to join Governor Hochul, Council Member Krishnan, and local leaders to announce an additional $10M from New York State to help make it happen. I’m also proud to have secured $1M in federal funding for this project, pending final approval by Congress, and look forward to delivering it soon. Together, we’re turning this community vision into reality!

New Yorkers: planning your Sunday? Here’s the latest on the remnants of Hurricane Isaias. 🌧️ We met again this afternoon with @NWSNewYorkNY and City agencies to discuss the forecast and coordinate response. Hurricane Isaias does not pose a threat to NYC, but some of its leftover moisture is expected to bring a steady, soaking rain on Sunday. Here’s what the forecast says right now:
☔ Some rain is possible Sunday morning, with steady rain expected to start late morning or early afternoon.
🌧️ The heaviest rain is expected late Sunday afternoon into the evening, with about 1 inch of rain and locally higher amounts possible.
💨 Gusts of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with possible peaks of 35 to 40 mph Sunday evening.
🌤️ Rain is expected to taper off by mid to late Monday afternoon. At this time, the forecast calls for mainly minor flooding on streets and in low-lying areas. Minor coastal flooding is also possible around high tide early Monday in parts of the Rockaways and around Jamaica Bay. Out of an abundance of caution, the City’s Flash Flood Emergency Plan remains active. Crews are out clearing catch basins today and tomorrow, and agencies will have extra staff through Sunday night. Secure loose items on balconies and patios before Sunday afternoon, and never drive or walk through floodwaters. Get free alerts at nyc.gov/notifynyc. 📲

Read my full statement on today’s shooting of a New Yorker by ICE agents, reportedly with a 5-year-old child in the car. Our communities deserve safety and accountability, not state-sponsored violence and intimidation at the hands of federal immigration enforcement.
