For me, most significant individual result of US congressional elections:
Uniquely, two Democratic Party candidates competed for the seat.
The Socialist Angela Gonzales-Torres soundly defeated party-backed incumbent, Gomez.
Bernie Sanders & Zohran Mamdani refused to endorse her, because of her “extreme” opposition to Israeli genocide, AIPAC and big tech oligarchy. AOC went even further. She endorsed Gomez, the AIPAC funded Democrat.

The Foreign Office knows that a verdict in the mass trial of Shia clerics in Bahrain is expected on Sunday, 8 November. Yet it has remained silent on the trial, while Middle East Minister @SDoughtyMP has been visiting Bahrain and meeting its leadership.
How does the Foreign Office justify leaving named-day parliamentary questions unanswered for six working days beyond their deadline?

The laughable claim that the US political system is superior to China's completely disregards the outcomes of those systems, and their impact on their own populations and the rest of the world.
But this can be illustrated by individuals.
US citizens get Trump, Chinese citizens are led by Xi Jinping.

Labour rejoicing at the DEM's triumph is false.
Bernie Sanders would be thrown out of Labour for this.

It is caused by expectation of higher interest rates, because even with 1% growth, Britain has an inflation problem (lack of investment).

Relative stability, comparatively solid growth, expectations of rate rises, no drama Budget, EU rapprochement all mentioned as factors.

Voters want something completely different to bipartisan US imperialist politics.
Bipartisan US politics is determined that is not going to happen.
When you listen to James Talarico, you realize that last night's results were not just a rejection of Trump and Israel's Iran war, but also a rejection of a Democratic Party led by people like Biden, Blinken, and Sullivan:
"I've never taken money from AIPAC, and I'm not taking money from AIPAC in this campaign. Seeing what's happening in Gaza makes me sick to my stomach as a teacher, as a Christian, as a human being"
This is his message, and he won in Texas!

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won a dramatic victory in October’s Brazilian Presidential election. He won with 51.79% of the vote, securing 4.4 million more votes than his right-wing challenger Flávio Bolsonaro. He will be the first president of Brazil, since its return to civilian rule in 1985, to be elected after losing the first round of the election.
Lula’s victory is a great cause for joy and optimism for people in Brazil and beyond.
In this video Marco Fernandes is interviewed by Bert De Belder about Lula's spectacular victory and its significance for Brazil, Latin America and international politics.
Marco Fernandes is a Member of BRICS Civil Council. He is a Geopolitical Analyst, Brasil de Fato (online media). He is based in Moscow, previously based in China (2020-2025).
Bert De Belder is a medical doctor by education and longtime activist. He currently heads the Workers' Party of Belgium (PVDA-PTB) Department of International Relations.

In periods of stagnation, people learn slowly. In periods of struggle, many people can learn very quickly. People who thought they were standing alone can find one another. People can discover how much they have in common, and how much power they can build together.
We are seeing that today, from Rome to Madrid, from Brussels to Dublin, from Paris to London.
The storm has only just begun.

As much as the Iran war is the key reason Trump and the GOP were crushed tonight, it is important to recognize that the pressure for war is now likely to increase.
This does not mean that Trump will restart the war. But the balance of pressure for and against war will likely favor escalation.
Trump was under a degree of pressure to strike a deal before the midterms, hoping to soften the blow in the polls. But now that the midterms are over, that pressure will dissipate somewhat. Gas prices are still high, but the political cost has already been paid. There won’t be another point on the political calendar for some time when that cost can be exacted again.
But two other factors will intensify.

The Budget was more austerity, especially freezing income tax thresholds again.
But the Budget found £10bn for the Ukraine war and £5bn for the MoD by cutting other departments.
Now, the Home Secretary has written anti-immigration and asylum rules that previous Tory PMs would have been too timid to adopt.
This is not change.
