For me, most significant individual result of US congressional elections: Uniquely, two Democratic Party candidates competed for the seat. The Socialist Angela Gonzales-Torres soundly defeated party-backed incumbent, Gomez. Bernie Sanders & Zohran Mamdani refused to endorse her, because of her “extreme” opposition to Israeli genocide, AIPAC and big tech oligarchy. AOC went even further. She endorsed Gomez, the AIPAC funded Democrat.

The Foreign Office knows that a verdict in the mass trial of Shia clerics in Bahrain is expected on Sunday, 8 November. Yet it has remained silent on the trial, while Middle East Minister @SDoughtyMP has been visiting Bahrain and meeting its leadership. How does the Foreign Office justify leaving named-day parliamentary questions unanswered for six working days beyond their deadline? @Ed_Miliband @FCDOGovUK @UKinBahrain @johnmcdonnellMP

The laughable claim that the US political system is superior to China's completely disregards the outcomes of those systems, and their impact on their own populations and the rest of the world. But this can be illustrated by individuals. US citizens get Trump, Chinese citizens are led by Xi Jinping.

Labour rejoicing at the DEM's triumph is false. Bernie Sanders would be thrown out of Labour for this.
“No more military aid to the extremist government in Israel… what they’ve done to the Palestinians is genocidal…” Bernie Sanders tells BBC Newsnight. The presenter is quick to interject that “the Israeli government would deny they’re extremist…” Why are we still doing this?

It is caused by expectation of higher interest rates, because even with 1% growth, Britain has an inflation problem (lack of investment).
NEW Pound sterling at its post Brexit high… (trade weighted, Bank of England basket of currencies)… rising against $ and esp €… but also notably other European currencies SFR, krona etc… Relative stability, comparatively solid growth, expectations of rate rises, no drama Budget, EU rapprochement all mentioned as factors. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6ly… £ fell sharply after referendum, and at various Brexit/ no deal/ red lines stress points, and Covid, and the mini budget reached joint high yesterday of 86.4 (Jan 2005=100), went higher today, (ac to my BBC calculations to a new high since June 24th 2016, TBC by BoE tomorrow morning).

Voters want something completely different to bipartisan US imperialist politics. Bipartisan US politics is determined that is not going to happen.
When you listen to James Talarico, you realize that last night's results were not just a rejection of Trump and Israel's Iran war, but also a rejection of a Democratic Party led by people like Biden, Blinken, and Sullivan: "I've never taken money from AIPAC, and I'm not taking money from AIPAC in this campaign. Seeing what's happening in Gaza makes me sick to my stomach as a teacher, as a Christian, as a human being" This is his message, and he won in Texas!

People who thought they were standing alone can find one another. People can discover how much they have in common, and how much power they can build together. We are seeing that today, from Rome to Madrid, from Brussels to Dublin, from Paris to London. The storm has only just begun. Read the full article by Peter Mertens here: nocoldwar.org/news/in-europe…

As much as the Iran war is the key reason Trump and the GOP were crushed tonight, it is important to recognize that the pressure for war is now likely to increase. This does not mean that Trump will restart the war. But the balance of pressure for and against war will likely favor escalation. Trump was under a degree of pressure to strike a deal before the midterms, hoping to soften the blow in the polls. But now that the midterms are over, that pressure will dissipate somewhat. Gas prices are still high, but the political cost has already been paid. There won’t be another point on the political calendar for some time when that cost can be exacted again. But two other factors will intensify. Read full analysis: responsiblestatecraft.org/tr…

The Budget was more austerity, especially freezing income tax thresholds again. But the Budget found £10bn for the Ukraine war and £5bn for the MoD by cutting other departments. Now, the Home Secretary has written anti-immigration and asylum rules that previous Tory PMs would have been too timid to adopt. This is not change.

According to Von Der Leyen, "since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, imported fossil fuels cost Europe an additional €127bn without a single molecule of energy in addition." Yup, the very same Von Der Leyen who at the very beginning of the war - when the US and Israel attacked - said she supported regime change in Iran (euronews.com/2026/03/01/iran…). The geopolitical equivalent of cheering on the guy sawing off the branch you're sitting on, then acting shocked when you hit the ground. Which is pretty much a European specialty at this stage...
Startling figure from VDL speech today: "Since the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, imported fossil fuels cost Europe an additional €127bn without a single molecule of energy in addition." That works out about €281 per EU resident, 67% of the EU's entire annual budget
