Once again Athletics is mired in controversy and receiving the wrong kind of publicity. 2026 was a year of superlative performances. So for the year to end with more suspensions is beyond disappointing. To restore credibility to athletics the sports administrators need to rethink. Putting the onus on the infrastructure supporting the athletes would result in fewer instances. In my view the athlete is all too often the dupe not the initiator. Sponsors, Agents and Coaches should have more accountability. Removing the offenders ability to compete internationally for five years should focus the athlete’s attention on the team they assemble around them. I would like to propose the following; Establish an international database of authorised coaches. All coaches of national level athletes to sign up to an internationally recognised code of conduct. A breach of the code of conduct by coach or athlete would incur an immediate suspension and loss of access to international competition. A one-year suspension of the athlete’s representative followed by a lifetime ban for any subsequent infringement. Make regular in and out of competition testing a responsibility of shoe and clothing sponsors. A momentary act of selfish indulgence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, consider every action, and from the outset think how this could end.

Sorry Mamello, what is WR for women’s marathon in your opinion? I pulled Paula out, as a long lasting record, if not there, where should it be?
"Do we go back to Paula Radcliffe's WR" Are you serious?

If an athlete has gone through male puberty, or any part of it, they should not be running in women’s category!
You have the same passion and feelings about biological males competing in the female category, correct?

Oh Ralph, you pick who the record should be? Is is 2:16, 2:17. 2:11 or 2:12? I can make a strong argument for Tigist Assefa to hold WR! What do you think?

What do you all think of male pacers in marathons for elite woman?

It would be less positives if @WorldAthletics ban the use of male pacers in women marathon races

Casey, read my note, I asked where we should restart? Do we go back to 2:16? Many agree with you! Where is the non coping women’s record for the marathon?
lol I think it’s cute you think Radcliffe was clean

I completely concur! I reported what my contacts noted. I think that distrust in system is indicative of the issue. If I recall, many went after Paula when she ran. I believed that Tigist Assefa could run 2:11, which is equivalent of men’s 2:01. I am not ready to believe a sub 2:10 can be run by a women without doping, at this time.

No reason to believe Radcliffe was clean and Assefa isn’t.

Oh Dick. Just because you can be sphincter muscle on social media, doesn’t mean you should! I put this up for discussion, if you can’t handle this, put on your big boys pants and stop following me. Most of my followers know that we can and do disagree but do not have to resort to name calling. I think you have a point, is there any performance you believe? Stop the insults and have a discussion, otherwise, just go away.

You are actually a stone cold retard if you think Radcliffe was ever natty during her professional career

Read this @MichaelRPayne1 is a straight shooter! He’s one of my favorite reads! I respect his breadth of experience and business savvy. He’s spot on McDonalds, and he’s on my short list of global sport dream interviews!!!!
I used to negotiate with McDonalds as IOC Director. Initially grest partner but over time pushed to expand the category to trying to own all food - (but not pay any more - and in thrur view judt because McD made cheese buggers the French organisers could not have a cheese partner. In their ideal world only wanted McD served to tge?arhketes village & would not see reason that they were the fadt food partner not the whole category. It became impossible to manage & was as much IOC that walked away as McD

Great to see @Statman_Jon opining on the strength of current world records…
In 1986, the men’s hammer WR looked ripe to fall. It hasn’t budged in 40 years. Meanwhile, the women’s 800m WR is 43 years old - and suddenly under pressure. I’ve analysed all 38 individual track & field WRs to see which look safe, and which don’t. Full analysis: link in bio.

A wonderful piece on Team GB iconic sprinter, Kathy Cook! I remember her at LA 1984!!
Great Britain’s original sprint queen 👑 Kathy Cook 🇬🇧 was one of the most versatile athletes during a controversial era in athletics. Her breakthrough came in 1977, where she won three bronze medals at the European Junior Championships in Donetsk. Over the following years, she began to assert her dominance as one of the leading sprinters globally, making the 100m + 200m finals at the Moscow Olympics and achieving a 200m bronze medal at the inaugural World Championships in Helsinki. Cook’s greatest season was in 1984, setting British records across the 200m (22.10s), 300m (35.46s), and 400m (49.43s) and winning a bronze medal over the one-lap distance at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. The women’s sprint relay also tasted numerous successes, with Kathy being part of the bronze medal 4x100m teams at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics, silver at the 1983 World Championships, three consecutive gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, and two silver medals at the European Championships. Her career came at a time when state-sponsored doping was rife, particularly in Eastern Bloc countries such as East Germany and the Soviet Union. Speaking to the BBC in 2013, Kathy said, “People that I had beaten 18 months (or) two years ago suddenly I just couldn’t beat, and I used to think they looked different, and you start to think that doesn’t look right.” 🎤 Injuries hampered her performances after the 1984 season, which contributed to her eventual retirement in 1987. While Kathy Cook retired without ever winning an individual gold medal at a major championship, she won the hearts of millions through her integrity and dedication. 📸 Steve Hale
