I've always been a bit of a dissenting opinion on Hegseth, in that I think he's done basically fine in the role. He's executed what Trump asked him to do, and usually pretty well. Rank and file soliders seem to love him.
It's not his decision whether to go to war or not, and some of the operations that have happened under his watch have been stunningly-well executed. (Midnight hammer, Venezuela, the rescue operation in Iran, etc.)
If he's fired, he's basically the scapegoat for Trump not having the stomach to follow through on Iran and thinking he can win with solely an air operation. Either you fully commit, or you leave. You could replace Hegseth with a clone of General Patton and if you set the same constraints, nothing would be any different.
To be sure, he's done some foolish stuff, most recently that decision to livestream an execution that then got reversed but was yet another distraction. So he's far from perfect, and his personal history is sordid. But in terms of carrying out the military operations the President ordered, he has been solid. Whether those missions are smart....totally different question.

If you can look at the wipeout in Texas last night and see a Cornyn victory in that carnage, I don't know what to tell you.

oof, dude sounds like he just got his heart ripped out under Pankot Palace.
Tonight wasn’t the night our campaign had hoped for.
To everyone who stood alongside us, gave your time, and believed in what we set out to accomplish, thank you. I will never forget your dedication, your friendship, and, above all, your love for the great state of Texas.
As Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.”
My dreams for Texas and America remain undiminished, as does my faith in the indomitable spirit of the people of the Lone Star State.
I’m not going anywhere — because we have work to do.
Onward.

The Dem primary will be "I am a corporate-approved white male in a suit b/c that is what the voters want" vs "this is the moment of the revolution, line em all up against the wall"

You know what this says? Voters will pass what they don't trust their politicians to be able to do, and then punish incumbents for failing to listen to them.
Ohio results:
🔵 Governor race: +8 Democrat
🔴 Voter ID amendment: +31 Yes
North Carolina results:
🔵 Senate race: +20 Democrat
🔴 Voter ID amendment: +20 Yes
Nevada results:
🔵 Governor race: +7 Democrat
🔴 Voter ID amendment: +25 Yes
Even in a blue tsunami, voter ID was able to pass with landslide margins
Cornyn would have lost too, just not so badly. I mean, Republicans lost Kansas and South Carolina and Georgia and
Ken Paxton didn't even come close. With 96 percent of the vote in, he's trailing by 1.2 million votes.
Paxton was every bit as abominably poor a candidate as his critics said; his nomination likely doomed the seat. Elon Musk and his Texas PAC could have bought every ad break on every channel for the entire year, and it wouldn't have altered the outcome.
El Sayed still got like 60% of the Jewish vote! Evidently it’s not an existential crisis just yet.
"El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan, along with the election of some far-left, virulently anti-Israel candidates in the House, will be a warning sign for American Jews and pro-Israel voters alarmed by the Democratic Party’s chilliness towards the Jewish state and tone-deafness towards rising antisemitism.
But given how many Democrats won on conservative turf, the far-left lawmakers will have decidedly less leverage in the new Congress, and will be outnumbered by the numerous red-state and red-district Democrats who won tough races by appealing to moderate voters.
DMFI celebrated the long list of pro-Israel moderates who won, including Reps.-elect Elaine Luria (D-VA), Cait Conley (D-NY), Marni von Wilpert (D-CA) and Bobby Pulido (D-TX)."

There were 41 ballot measures to pass data center moratoriums… it passed in every district
So the 41 datacenter moratoria across the country are, I predict, going to go 41-0. In nearly every case it's about 67-80% opposing datacenters. True in California, Ohio, everywhere. Read all the results here:

So Vance’s 2028 pitch will be: continue the disaster policies but ditch the roguish appeal

Susan Collins, while imperfect, is a generational loss. We will likely never find the unicorn Republican who can lock down that seat again.

Voters were entirely on Trump’s side when it came to the border and asylum seekers, but Trump solved that problem so it stopped being an electoral issue
Voters are stupid, you don’t get credit for fixing something

Replying to @_Peter_Cook
It's the actual one, nokings thing that he's done, and the Democrats are all too happy that he didn't do it.

Trump's refusal to implement a law passed by Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court to ban an app created in a hostile country that has promoted the most damaging social contagions in recent history should have been grounds for his immediate impeachment and removal.

Everyone will point to tariffs and Iran, and those are the obvious explanations. But a systemic collapse like this can only occur if the edifice has itself become completely rotten, and had been disintegrating within for a long time before any external signs revealed themselves.
Hard agree but… lol at this White House listening
Bad news is we lost senate seats that won't be winnable for six years. Gut wrenching.
Here's the good news: in terms of electoral prospects, this is super easy to fix. Trivial, even:
1. End the tariffs now. If the Admin wants to make a case for a few targeted ones for bad actors, fine. But the broad tariffs must stop.
2. Either go balls to the wall on Iran to finish the regime, or pull out of the war. Do more limited stuff like "midnight hammer" if Iran tries to rebuild its nuclear program, but that's it.
3. Do not back off the stuff that IS going well, and a lot is. Crime at record lows. Border under control. ATF and 2nd Amendment Section doing great work. Government employment reduced. Etc. Do not learn the wrong lessons from what was an inflation-related election blowout and undermine the things that are working.
4. Finally, and this one may be the hardest for Trump: limit the stupid distractions.
