In this experiment Dr Rob Thompson of @UniRdg_Met shows just how long it takes water to soak into parched ground, illustrating why heavy rainfall after a #drought can be dangerous and might lead to flashfloods. @R0b1et @UniRdg_water

It's great to see the new volume 'Landscapes and Landforms of Botswana' (edited by @fekarduct) now published. I really enjoyed writing my chapters on Kalahari dry valleys and calcrete/silcrete duricrusts, drawing together research developed since my PhD. link.springer.com/book/10.10…

Very happy that my first PhD paper is now out in #ESPL! We use luminescence dating, lithostratigraphy, and petrography to reconstruct the fluvial response of the Huab River, Namibia, to Holocene climates. @SLBurrough @kalaharidave doi.org/10.1002/esp.5349

For humanities sake @pritipatel make this the moment you step up. Help these people… open our doors as we would hope they would for us if ever we need them… make it easier not harder.
It is totally immoral that the Home Office is still applying normal visa restrictions to those fleeing Ukraine. The Government must urgently provide a simple sanctuary route to the UK for all who need it. This is our moral duty.

Now to feature @short_elephant who sent us some very interesting cores during lockdown. She is working on Namibian lake sediments, using the Itrax to look for indicators of recent environmental change in a novel environment. We are looking forward to reading this one! #IWD2021

Got a 2.4 GPA my first semester in college. Thought maybe I wasn’t cut out for engineering. Today I’ve landed two spacecraft on Mars, and am now designing one for the Moon. STEM is hard for everyone. Grades ultimately aren’t what matter. Curiosity and perseverance matter.
