“why do banks share data with @SOLOAPI” is the most common question I get
Could banks earn money from identity checks they’ve already paid to complete?
“You can capture the economics or a data middleman can.”
@georginamerhom, founder and CEO of @SOLOAPI, speaks with @katieeperry on This Week in Fintech Partnered about the incentives behind reusable KYC.
One institution could get paid for its verification work. Another uses those checks to onboard a customer, provided they meet its compliance standards.

You gave permission to share your data. Did you lose control of it, too?
“It kind of just enters a void and the customer forgets who has what.”
@georginamerhom, founder and CEO of @SOLOAPI, speaks with @katieeperry on This Week in Fintech Partnered about the fear behind data sharing: your information being used against you.
They discuss consumer control, reusable identity verification and KYC. If one bank has already verified who you are, why should you have to start again?
And as AI agents start making payments, who controls identity and permission?

I’ve gone through so many applications this summer you have no idea…
Introducing the Conversion Scorecard.
When we launched KYC and KYB certificates, we had to put them to the test to see exactly how many steps reusable verifications could remove from a customer’s onboarding.
We thought we could help the banks compete on a higher conversion experience that fintechs had already figured out.
But the reality of what we found after scoring hundreds of programs: some of the industry’s best fintechs have settled for 50+ min applications.

Fintechs: your compliance obligations should not come at the cost of your onboarding experience.
We applied for @FlexSuperApp.
Application time: 25 minutes.
Decision time: ~2 hours.
And the person applying on behalf of the business was never KYC’d.
KYC/KYB is one of the most important parts of building a fintech
yet most fintechs treat it as friction they need to eliminate
that is the WRONG approach
if your goal is to minimize KYB so you can onboard anyone and everyone, you're company won't last very long
compliance is one of the strongest moats in fintech
strong compliance lets you:
> work with better banking partners
> serve larger businesses
> support higher volumes
> expand into more products
> actually strive long term
and if customers are choosing your fintech because your compliance is "lax", that is not a competitive advantage
rather more of a a ticking time bomb
we've seen countless fintechs scale quickly, only to get shut down when their sponsor bank starts asking questions they can't answer
we treat compliance as one of the most important pillars inside of our company at Flex
if you want to build a venture scale fintech, compliance HAS to be one of your strongest advantages

This unbundling (authentication vs. validation) is exactly what needs to happen to KYC, KYB, income verification, all of it. Banks re-authenticate the same counterparty a hundred times because there's no trust line for identity, only for transactions. The fix isn't a new chain. It's a reliance network banks get paid to run: @SOLOAPI.
Validating public Blockchains is a source of revenue for banks, and adds a layer of trust to public chains.
There's a concept among banks that they should never validate anything except their own counterparties transaction. This is a misreading of the concept. It confuses Blockchain validation for payments authentication in the existing banking system.
When in reality that happens a layer above the Blockchain in public chains. Transactions by the time they reach a chain are either directly from a customer (self custody) or from another institution. Networks like SWIFT, Notebene, and Ubyx enable trust lines to pre check transactions before sending them to a chain.
Any compliance obligations can be handled post transaction by the issuer of the stablecoins (which is the standard GENIUS and MiCA have evolved towards).
The chain itself is then a public utility. "Validation" is the act of helping reconcile all of the transactions. This is what reduces the operational burden for all parties involved and delivers programmable, 24/7, global payments.
And that needs to be resilient, bank grade infrastructure that operates 24/7.
Banks are doing this today but not getting paid for it. Validation is their path to monetize the type of vendor

We founded @SOLOAPI to build a consumer-permissioned bureau that could serve as the trust layer of the internet — unlocking access to capital, opportunity & relationships. Our first product, PULL, powers millions of loan applications for institutions and is backed by 100+ community banks. Now with PASS, users don’t just access their data — they own it, control it, and carry it with them as a reusable asset across the internet.
Keeta and SOLO have partnered to launch the first blockchain-native credit bureau.
Built on Keeta’s high-performance blockchain, the system enables verified financial identities through SOLO’s PASS — an on-chain profile that consolidates KYC, KYB, income, crypto assets, and other financial data into a single, user-permissioned identity.
This unlocks real-world lending on-chain, including mortgages, small business loans, and credit access for digital asset holders.
SOLO is trusted by 100+ banks and serves over 100 million users.
