Is making student athletes employees really the answer?
Collective bargaining isn’t a fix for college sports—it’s a death blow.
• Non-revenue sports get cut as schools redirect money to athlete salaries, hurting the U.S. Olympic pipeline.
• Football and men’s basketball generate most revenue, creating a collision between market-based pay and Title IX requirements.
• Schools become employers, taking on payroll taxes, workers’ comp, labor disputes, and HR liabilities.
• The “student-athlete” model disappears. Athletes become employees, with all the obligations and conflicts that come with it.
The NCAA needs reform, but turning college athletes into NFL-style employees fundamentally changes—and may permanently damage—the collegiate model.

No team in the American Conf wants this. They want access to the real playoff. LIKE EVERY OTHER COLLEGE SPORT
Put names to this or shut the hell up
Any school that supports this should drop down to FCS @Tim_Pernetti @TKGould
FBS is one level with 10 conferences
END THE CORRUPTION AND MONOPOLY AT THE FBS LEVEL
Self relegate half the FBS down to FCS 2.0 and I’m done watching college football all together
STOP LETTING THE @sec and @bigten RUN ALL OVER US!

Jamarcus Shephard speaks on expansion and the 24-team College Football Playoff…
“I hope the NCAA actually does care about student athletes, all student athletes, not just the ones in the SEC and the Big Ten.”

Another reason to like Oregon State, Head Coach JaMarcus Shephard gave his thoughts on the 24-Team Playoff:
“I hope the NCAA actually does care about student athletes, all student athletes, not just the ones in the SEC and the Big Ten.”

The Pac-12 has the nation’s leading passer, leading receiver, and one of the best running back duos in college football, all in the same conference.
I’m done sleeping on the Pac-12. ⬇️

He’s right. If you’re going to 24, you might as well go to 28 with every conference champion.
4 P4 champs. 6 G6 champs. 18 at larges.
21-24 seeds play a play-in game against 25-28 on current conference championship weekend to get to the proposed 24.
Jamarcus Shephard’s amazing thoughts on the 24-team College Football Playoff.
“I hope the NCAA actually does care about student athletes, ALL student athletes, not just the ones in the SEC and the Big Ten.”
He emphasizes accessibility to all teams in the FBS, and suggests all conference champions being able to be in that playoff, similar to the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
“Well, this kid, he puts on his pads just like this kid in this other conference. He has to come in and work under the same rules, stipulations…within the NCAA’s bylaws that the kid at another conference has to.”
Wish there were more, but some interesting tidbits from the joint @BulwarkOnline/@pablofindsout poll.
Not great news for the anti-PCSA crowd, imo...
*ONLY* 46-33 said they support schools paying athletes beyond scholarship 🥴
Also, huge desire for players/coaches to be paid less than professors.
Not sure "a $50M cap on athletes is exploitation!!" or "use tuition money to subsidize it!" are winning messages rn....
NEW: Oregon State's JaMarcus Shephard on the 24-team College Football Playoff:
"Everyone has to work under the same set of rules. So let’s try to make it more accessible to more people, rather than just trying to make the rich richer, and that’s what it ends up boiling down to. The rich get richer, and I’m hoping that that’s not the case. I hope the NCAA actually does care about student athletes, all student athletes, not just the ones in the SEC and the Big Ten."

Not one player in this high school class is worth $5 million.
Or even close to that.
NEW: Some of the nation's top high school basketball recruits are commanding NIL offers approaching $5 million for a single season.
I spoke with anonymous college coaches and GMs about the rising market, two-year deals, and what goes on behind the scenes during negotiations.

Statements like this make no sense. The Civil War can’t be exciting unless Oregon State is a power conference team?
Oregon State would beat Oregon this year.

@Coach_SD is so amazing! To him, it’s about more than just money and football. He’s preparing football players for life and its chalk. Coach Danielson putting God and family ahead of big money. Thank you Spencer for everything you’ve done since you joined Bronco Nation in 2017!
