The “New Yorker” he’s mourning was arrested and charged with walking into a Bronx laundromat and attacking 2 strangers with meat cleavers, killing Jose Miranda and seriously wounding another man.
He had 27(!) prior arrests and had been paroled just 1 month before the killing.
I am deeply saddened by the death of a New Yorker in City custody at a jail on Rikers Island early this morning. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones as they grieve this loss.
We do not yet know the cause of death, but we do know that too many New Yorkers have died on Rikers Island. The Department of Correction and its oversight partners will investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Our administration is fully committed to the critical work of creating better conditions in our city’s jail system and closing Rikers Island as quickly as possible.

Parents can drop their kids off at the park for up to 4 hours and Government employees will watch them
He is saying, "Bring your children to the park and we will watch them for free."

It’s very unlikely the government just wants to help parents get a night out to themselves….
