Nigerian soldiers blocked police from entering a suspected hideout in Bassa, Plateau State, on 20 October. According to the eyewitness video, the soldiers were led by a man "claiming" to be Major Chukwu of Operation Enduring Peace, and he was seen with armed militia members and the local Miyetti Allah chairman. Police under the IGP's clearance operation had gone in to deal with men carrying military-grade weapons. The soldiers stopped them!! After a tense standoff, the military withdrew and the armed men fled. This is the pattern communities in Plateau have described for years: Security forces that refuse to act against the groups attacking Christian farming areas, or actively stand in the way of those who try. The Government that commands these forces has not given a clear public account of what happened in Rafiki that morning. Coordination has failed. Accountability has failed. The killings continue. The world needs to wake up.
