ALT Lewis Sampson is a research software engineer for the DAFNI platform. He maintains and develops the current DAFNI Kubernetes system, and is in the process of creating a new cluster. He also works closely with the team of developers to ensure that systems and developer aims align. Lewis is looking forward to connecting with others to share ideas, build networks and learn about useful new tools while having the opportunity to represent STFC as a whole. He is keen to attend sessions on HPC digital twins, secure coding practices, and cross-domain EDI discussions.

ALT James Hannah is the Infrastructure Lead for the JASMIN super-data cluster. He manages the team that provisions, procures and operates the JASMIN physical infrastructure. He deals with everything from low-level datacentre management of our servers to managing the operating and configuration management systems, and investigating service and user issues. James is looking forward to seeing the latest technology and talking with vendors about their newest products and services.

ALT David Emerson is the Computational Engineering Theme Leader at STFC Scientific Computing. He leads a team working on computational fluid dynamics. His personal research interests currently include understanding rarefied flows, hypersonics and high-speed compressible flows, and addressing the challenges in delivering multiphysics and multiscale applications on exascale systems. He is looking forward to attending keynotes and technical sessions covering HPC applications and developments.

ALT Virtual reality (VR) can help Alzheimer’s patients by boosting their mood, reducing anxiety, and improving cognitive skills. Research indicates that testing navigation skills in a VR environment can help detect the disease early on. VR has even been used to virtually show patients significant places from their lives to stimulate their memory. For carers, VR can simulate the experience of Alzheimer’s to promote understanding and empathy for the patient.
