This preprint shows how deep learning and high-res aerial imagery can accurately map trees outside forests - those scattered across fields, hedgerows, and groves that are often overlooked in environmental monitoring, or sometimes even considered as data artufacts. Check out how this vision transformer-based model works: More: arxiv.org/pdf/2510.25239 #365Papers #Day316 —-------------------------------------------------------- 🌍 𝐒𝐞𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐠𝐞𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: linkedin.com/feed/update/urn…

The team at Ai2 also created an interactive site explaining the Earth embeddings they released, I really encourage you to take a look at it: narrative.allen.ai/olmoearth… When I say I want to make data more accessible, this is exactly the kind of stuff I also want to make! (does anyone know who made this in the team? I want to nerd out with them!)
OlmoEarth v1.3 is out. 🌍 State-of-the-art embeddings from the same foundation model family, precomputed for every 10 m pixel on Earth. We’re excited to give you more ways to work with OlmoEarth, including a new browser tool to explore and customize maps. Full rundown in 🧵

Some AI-wealthy philanthropists should set up a foundation to provide paid full-time positions for professional maintainers on critical pieces of open-source software infrastructure. Shouldn't be left to lone volunteers!
70% of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up. He rules. theatlantic.com/technology/2…

I don’t want to sound like a smartass (or dumb), you know games better than any of us. Please refer to my hideous drawing. So I understand it as a bigger space with a vacuum until where we don’t register it as a “game” anymore. Could be anything ordinary.

Interesting idea. Had tokens to burn so I got Opus to put it to the test
Of course it can. Take all 100,000+ games on steam, scrape their descriptions and metadata, semantically plot them in vector space using embeddings, mathematically choose a location in vector space far away from neighbors, convert that back to a description and metadata, boom, brand new ideas ranked by how unlike any other ideas they are.

a huge revelation of the ai era is just how much of society & economy relies on other people being uninformed and secrecy being used as power & leverage. one thing I keep having daydreams about is that all the secrecy around silicon chips and around LLMs is gonna dissipate and people will realize shit wasn't hard at all, we were all just uninformed and it has been shrouded in secrecy purposefully For all the coping I see about CHYNA, I see them as most likely to actually get more chips to market in the coming months bc the citizens care about getting that american money more than they care about the power secrecy can convey (tbh a first world problem)

You do know that p2p internet compute offline first local only client side apps with no middle men and no servers and no stupid cryptocurrency is not only possible but inevitable? It looks like a replacement for BGP enabling ad hoc deterministic networking content addressable distributed torrent-like DHT with opt-in patch-through friend optional friend-of-friend networking? Literally all virtualized computer overlay on the DHT, turning memory limit say what?

I’m pretty disgusted with the product landscape. we have machines spitting out code and yet 99% of the interfaces I come across are basically stock anthropic ui shit. please spend some time making your product sexy, people like sexy things. the looksmaxxers were right about this.

Speech can survive being flipped backward every twenty milliseconds. The same speech in backward pieces of 200 then 100 then 50 then 20 milliseconds. The original comes last. When do the words become clear? A listening demo from @OrukLabs.
