“The suburbanization of poverty…has meant that more lower-income Americans… have moved to communities built around the deadliest kinds of roads: those with multiple lanes and higher speed limits but few crosswalks or sidewalks.” @nytimes (1 of 3) tinyurl.com/bdh9sbkh

Here in Atlanta, where pedestrian deaths are at crisis levels, just 10% of our streets account for more than 50% of all our pedestrian fatalities. One solution is clear: Safer street design saves lives. (2 of 3)

The scary thing is these are conditions a few blocks away from 2 schools & this is how much space drivers claim when there are no PBLs. We should center protected space especially around the travel of kids @ATLDOT @apsupdate @AmirForATL

I made it sound easy but it's not easy...it is simple though. If streets are designed so people drive at safe speeds - let's say 25 mph - they are dramatically less likely to kill someone if there is a crash.

There is no one single solution to Atlanta’s traffic woes. Rather, a combination of high-quality, accessible, equitable transit, bike lanes, and safe streets will help to make our city an easier place to get around—and a better place to live for all. tinyurl.com/bddxm7ej

“Pedestrian deaths are the highest they’ve been in four decades” and Atlanta’s communities of color are the most impacted. This epidemic is fixable. (1 of 3) 11alive.com/video/news/local…

These deaths are not inevitable “accidents.” We can stop them by fixing the dangerous street design causing disproportionate car-crash deaths on just ten percent of Atlanta streets. These streets are often located in communities of color. (2 of 3) letspropelatl.org/abolish-hi…

Pedestrian safety is a choice we can make. Let’s transform our streets, #Atlanta, into spaces that are safe for everyone, not just for those behind the wheel. (3 of 3) atlvisionzero.com

Hey @MARTAservice where's the 10:30 pm route 24 bus from Edgewood? It's not here, not on the real-time bus, and didn't see an alert.

Had a close call recently while crossing Atlanta's deadliest street (Mom, please don't watch this video) It shook me up and reminded me (as if I needed another reminder) how far we have to go, despite the progress we've made. This work is personal to me as it is to many of you.

Everyone needs to get places safely & the lack of good transportation options is holding us back as individuals and as a city! If this resonates with you, support safer streets & sidewalks + better transit for #GivingTuesday. Donate to @letspropelatl: GaGives.org/organization/Pro…

This motivated me to donate to @letspropelatl #GivingTuesday
My mom, who's in her 70s, is visiting Atlanta for the first time in several years. We walked from Midtown to Va-Hi yesterday — areas she frequented when she lived here in the 80s and 90s — and it hit home for me how dangerous Atlanta streets and sidewalks are for seniors.
