University students from townships & the rural areas deal with more than a lot. I’ve had students who’ve been told by family to drop out. I often sit them down. I’ve had students whose families try to recruit them to crime. NSFAS makes it easier for them to ignore noise from home

Matlhomola Moshoeu was a 16 year old black boy killed after being accused of stealing sunflowers worth R80, about five U.S. dollars. Two white farmers, Pieter Doorewaard and Phillip Schutte, pushed him from a moving van, causing fatal neck injuries. He died on 20 April 2017.
