Here are 10 priority actions to reach 11M people in crisis. The asks are clear. Next step is for decision makers to give positive responses and help get humanitarian aid to people in need, safely.
Yesterday, I was pleased to welcome @UN Under Secretary-General @Lacroix_UN to Amman and to join him in engagements with #Jordan's authorities on @UNPeacekeeping. The 🇺🇳 is deeply grateful for 🇯🇴's active and faithful contributions to the goals of the UN Charter: to work towards preventing and removing threats to peace, to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems, and to promote and encourage respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all.

It was my honor to renew the @UnitedNationsJO congratulations to Major General Magdi Al-Harasis on his appointment as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the @ArmedForcesJO.
I appreciate the positive collaboration with His Excellency and JAF, including on humanitarian aid to #Gaza, in Jordan’s contributions to @UN peacekeeping, and in the Kingdom’s advancement of women in military. I look forward to continuing our work together.

‼️10 points of action = 11 million people helped. This is the @UN at its best: presidents, prime ministers, and other world leaders taking real action to help real people. #UNGA81
.@UNReliefChief Tom Fletcher tells me he’s been “shaking down” foreign ministers, buttonholing them with his top 10 list of urgent commitments to save lives globally. “If we get these ten agreements, we can reach 11 million people this year who will otherwise die,” he tells me.
Tune in now to hear the first world leaders speak at @UN - Brazil, USA and #Jordan’s HM King Abdullah II.
The General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly is the opportunity for Heads of State and Government to come together at the UN Headquarters and discuss world issues.

Many world leaders chose to start off the annual high-level @UN General Assembly with a supremely important discussion on "Humanitarian Diplomacy that Safeguards International Humanitarian Law", organized by 🇪🇺 🇮🇪 , co-sponsored by 🇯🇴 @ForeignMinistry with 🇨🇦 🇧🇷 and @_AfricanUnion, and opened by HM Queen Mathilde of 🇧🇪 with statements from @ICRC, @UNReliefChief and @WFPChief among many others.
The attendance and voices of so many world leaders is important. But all agree: this is not enough. Talk must lead to preventive action and accountability. This week #UNGA81 offers an important opportunity to do just that.

On Friday, I had the honor to receive @UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres in #Jordan for the third time in my tenure as his representative in the Kingdom -- this time as he was en route to #Syria for his historic visit.
His support remains rock solid and I'm grateful for the chance to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing Jordan, the region, and the @UnitedNationsJO.

Always a pleasure to meet with H.E. Samar Al-Haj Hassan and H.E. Jamal Shamayleh at the National Center for Human Rights and to explore deeper cooperation between the @UnitedNationsJO and @jordan_nchr.
I commended the Center's continued excellent work and reaffirmed full support from the @UN - both here in #Jordan and from our global teams - on their work to promote human rights in 🇯🇴, across the region, and around the world.
Securing full enjoyment of human rights in a practical way felt by every person on the planet is a lofty goal - one full of challenges and shortfalls. But no matter the struggle, the journey towards that goal remains more important that ever.
The National Centre for Human Rights Explores Strategic Cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme
The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR), Ms. Samar Al-Haj Hassan, and the Commissioner General, Mr. Jamal Al-Shamayleh, received the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Jordan, Ms. Sheri Anderson, accompanied by the newly appointed Human Rights Adviser at the Resident Coordinator's Office, Mr. Saffiruddeen Al-Sayyid, to discuss ways of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two sides and to follow up on joint initiatives aimed at supporting national efforts to align national policies with international human rights standards, in line with Jordan's political, economic, and public sector modernization pathways.
Ms. Al-Haj Hassan and Mr. Al-Shamayleh welcomed the visiting delegation and congratulated Mr. Saffiruddeen Al-Sayyid on assuming his new role as Human Rights Adviser. Both sides reaffirmed the depth of the strategic partnership between the National Centre for Human Rights and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Jordan, emphasizing the importance of expanding dialogue and consultation between national institutions and international partners to further strengthen the national human rights system.
The meeting reviewed the key joint initiatives currently being implemented, foremost among them the outcomes of the consultative meetings on "Business and Human Rights,"which aim to promote an investment and development environment founded on respect for human rights and decent work standards. The participants also discussed mechanisms to support the National Centre for Human Rights' Strategic Plan (2026–2030), with the objective of further strengthening the Centre's oversight and advisory roles in accordance with international best practices.
During the meeting, Ms. Samar Al-Haj Hassan affirmed that Jordan continues to advance steadily in implementing its comprehensive modernization agenda, aimed at reinforcing the national human rights framework and the rule of law, while placing particular emphasis on protecting the rights of groups most in need of protection, including women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities. She also highlighted the Centre's growing regional and international role, noting that the National Centre for Human Rights will host the 15th International Conference of National Human Rights Institutions, scheduled to take place in early December this year.
For her part, Ms. Sheri Anderson commended the National Centre for Human Rights for its pivotal oversight and advisory role in Jordan. She reaffirmed the United Nations' commitment to providing the technical and institutional support necessary to enable the Centre to implement its strategic plans, promote public awareness of human rights, and broaden dialogue with national and international partners in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of maintaining close coordination and enhancing joint cooperation through the development of collaborative mechanisms that contribute to strengthening the national human rights protection system and expanding regional and international partnerships with relevant human rights stakeholders.

Every Jordanian 🇯🇴 deserves the chance to know their history — to touch it, to experience it, to practice the cultural traditions of their ancestors and carry them forward — and to enjoy liveable, vibrant cities for decades to come.
That conviction is what took me to As-Salt recently. The "Green Al-Salt: From Seed to Harvest" project preserves the living heritage of a @UNESCO World Heritage city — a place woven into the very fabric of #Jordan — while helping it green itself and stay adapted to a changing planet.
Heritage preservation and urban development are areas where the @UnitedNationsJO leads, and I'd love to see this joint approach rolled out further — because protecting a city's identity and building a greener, more sustainable future are the same goal.
The project is implemented by @UNHABITAT and @UNESCOJordan, in close partnership with the Greater Al-Salt Municipality, Jordan's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and Ministry of Culture, with generous funding from the Government of Italy 🇮🇹 through @ItalyinJordan @aics_it .
My thanks to every partner, and to the community of As-Salt, who reminded me that heritage is not something you freeze in place. It's something you tend — from seed to harvest.
