We do have rent control in practice precisely because rents cannot be raised without facing a complicated legal challenge that may not go the way of the landlord since Labour passed the Renter’s Right Act.
It’s fine if you’re an incumbent, but bad if you’re looking for a place.
If you think Italy is bad, wait till you see Germany or small town England (a lot of things close at 6 p.m.)

Across the globe, liberal democracies have failed to deal with unaffordability, leading to the rise of far-right extremism.
Speaking to Jacobin, Isabella Weber outlines an alternative. jacobin.com/2026/10/weber-in…
The implicit idea that except fur antisemitism (which is also a sort of super-racism) there’s no racism in British schools (or that any other racism is -“always dealt with well by confident, well-informed teachers & staff) is another pernicious aspect of the Bell review.

Anyone who puts Henry George on their list of leading political figures should revise their IQ down by 200 points and be banned from ever calling themselves a YIMBY.
The orthodox Marxist, Austrian and Schumpetarian have little in common except in seething about how statistics is a fake and gay discipline, considering a lot of economics as a discipline is just applied statistics.
The fatal mistake of orthodox economics is thinking that a variety of subjects entails diversity of thought or approaches.
The difference between orthodox and heterodox economics is simple.
Orthodox economics is defined by a dogmatic adherence to mathematical formalism and a belief that economics is neutral, value-free, and above politics.
Heterodox economics isn’t. It distinguishes itself from orthodox economics by welcoming a larger diversity of approaches and schools of economic thought.
And to those who think heterodox economics is a political project: please enlighten me about the shared political vision of a Marxist, a Schumpeterian, and an Austrian heterodox economist.
A lot of the biggest structural issues in the British economy go back to Clement Attlee’s government. From the housing crisis to the low productivity issues that have consistently plagued the British economy postwar to this day.
But the NHS used to be good once, I guess.
The great thing about Mike Tapp is that he’s very honest about the racism. He just tells you straight up he doesn’t know any Arabs and doesn’t care about Arabs, only Jews.
Some other Labour MPs would try and pretend otherwise…
It is so funny to watch hindutva supporters, esp. Bengali ones dancing over this news. Last time I visited ICTS, I saw Sen chatting with a colleague who was wearing a WhatsApp University t shirt lol. These morons will call ICTS anti national if they spend one week there.
Funny thing is, no they aren’t. Poor quality degrees tend to be more valued in the countries of origin than they are in Britain and give you a more than comfortable life in those countries and a pretty shitty one here.
Skilled worker visas already require you to secure a job that pays pretty well. People look at outliers to make statements about mean/medial/modal claims and that’s going to lead to the collapse of the higher ed system but that’s ok I guess.

This is making the exactly opposite point, Zelenskyy was always seen as someone who wanted peace with Russia and would have given a lot for it and Russia invaded and started their wholesale slaughter anyway
Says more about Russia than him
🚨🇺🇦Ukrainian dictator Volodymyr Zelensky 10 years ago:
"Do you understand that we can't be against Russians - we are the same people."
Kids, don't do cocaine and the EU at the same time.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
He changed his mind after what Russians did in February 2022.
