Russia will not win. „UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband confronted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, accusing Moscow of having no intention of ending its war against Ukraine and warning that Russia would not win. “We all know who the aggressor is in this war. Just yesterday, Russian drones attacked and killed 15 people at a railway station in Dnipro. And there are countless examples of you killing innocent civilians throughout this entire war. We all know that you are the aggressor,” Miliband said, according to Sky News. He added that Russian leader Vladimir Putin had expected to win the war quickly but had underestimated Ukraine’s resistance and international support. “Putin thought he would win this war easily. But you will not win this war. Thanks to the courage of the Ukrainian people and the solidarity of the nations represented at this table, you will not win,” Miliband said. He urged Lavrov to acknowledge that Russia could not achieve victory and convey that message to Putin. “If you had the courage to tell the truth and do the right thing, you would tell Putin that he is not winning this war and will not win it,” he added. Following the meeting, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Lavrov had made numerous false and distorted statements but showed no willingness to engage in peace negotiations. “Even if the Russians claim otherwise in words, their actions suggest otherwise. Russia must prove through its actions that it is ready for negotiations,” Kallas told AFP. She pointed to the large number of Ukrainian civilians killed in Russian attacks during July, August and September, calling for continued pressure on Moscow, particularly to secure a ceasefire in the Black Sea. Asked why she had not taken a joint photo with Lavrov, Kallas replied: “We must not normalize war crimes at this table.” United24

I literally coined the term "the Blob" to describe people who wanted to go to war with Iran.
Wait. What?! There’s stuff you can pin on the Blob but the Iran war damn sure ain’t one of them.

I support Proposition 40. California’s billionaires should pay, and the state’s health system needs the money. But a one-time levy collected decades after the fact is a costly way to claim a return that could have been written into the contract at the start. Redistribution settles old accounts. Pre-distribution redesigns an economy from the outset. New in @TIME ➡️ buff.ly/KaA14s8 More in new book, The Common Good Economy ➡️ buff.ly/zfNmMU9

יותר מ־80 שנה חלפו; הניסוח עדיין עובד. ynet.co.il/news/article/sjs5…

What a heartbreaking week it has been. Sir Patrick Stewart was a friend, a colleague, and a magnificent actor. From the stage to the bridge of the Enterprise, he brought intelligence, grace, and a deep sense of humanity to everything he did. Captain Picard stood for the best of us, and so did the man who played him. I was filled with affection and admiration for him and his work. My heart goes out to Sunny and his family. He will be deeply missed.

Hi, I'm free. Beat up but fine. Police stole my phone. Settlers punched me in the face several times, likely broke @AdeleShoko's wrist and gave @the_andrey_x a concussion. They threatened to shoot us with an assault rifle over and over. Will tell the full story later, but for now, I just want to be clear about what happened. We witnessed two settlers locking a military gate in Umm al-Khair, blocking the only way to more than twenty Palestinian communities: trapping families inside, preventing students from reaching school and workers from their jobs, blocking delivery of food and access to ambulances, etc. It's a crime that the military has this ability at all--but last night, we discovered that random settler terrorists also have the key. We confronted them and began asking questions on camera, and they nearly murdered us for it. When the police finally arrived, they arrested Andrey and me and charged us with assault. The gate is still locked.

Patrick Stewart's entire body of work, but as Picard in particular, is something that connects the person I am today with who I was as a kid. It collapses time for me. I still have the same awe and fascination with his performance and belief that it represents the best of us.

Netanyahu's little shit son says that Arabs being allowed to vote "is an existential problem no less than the Iranian nuclear threat." When the chips are down, you can also count on racism and bigotry from this corrupt, awful family.

We are facing a crisis of impunity. That's why we built The Rule of Law Project — to investigate unlawful conduct by federal officials, and work with state and local prosecutors to hold them to account. Fiscal responsibility is the right goal, often wrongly defined. Debt measures record what the state owes but not the roads, schools, hospitals and grid that borrowing builds. This quote (from @RBReich) is spot-on, but for those of us concerned about the future of democracy, it's only a partial, short-term solution. Democracy isn't secure when only one side of the political spectrum supports it. To survive, democracy has to be 'the only game in town'.
