This is truly a historic moment. President Trump has indefinitely suspended sanctions against Russia that would have been required in the Graham law. He went against the last request of Lindsey Graham, whom he called his friend. And he handed Putin the opportunity to finance the war against Ukrainians, who are fighting for their freedom. Trump calls this a "national interest." But diesel prices went up because of his war against Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. So waiving sanctions on Russia does not solve that problem. Instead, it creates another one. Putin cannot win on the battlefield, so he attacks civilians. Russian missiles and drones are destroying homes, hospitals, schools, and churches. According to the UN, just two weeks of October have been among the deadliest for civilians in Ukraine in recent years. Forty percent of Russia's budget goes to the war. After Trump's latest decisions, Russia will make record profits. The formula is simple: "Money turns into missiles. Missiles turn into civilian deaths." Trump is not stopping Russia's war against Ukraine. Trump is helping Putin win it. As a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, I want to address the people of America, regardless of their political views. Do you really believe that the killing of millions of people and the loss of Ukraine's independence are in your national interest? If not, what will you do to stop America from financing the genocide that Putin is waging against Ukrainians with Trump's support? #StandWithUkraine

I have read dozens of outraged posts because the US special envoy Witkoff called Putin a "humanist." But no one is writing about the fact that the American negotiators are simply not doing their job. Let me explain. Peace negotiations are important in their own right. Even if they do not lead to a lasting peace, the process itself is an opportunity to resolve urgent humanitarian issues. If, of course, the human dimension is a priority for the negotiators. But it is entirely obvious that neither Witkoff nor Kushner cares about people's fates in this war. The Pope calls on Putin to save thousands of people from starvation in occupied Oleshky and the surrounding villages. The UN speaks about a humanitarian catastrophe and asks Russia to allow the evacuation of the civilian population. European Parliament Vice-President Pina Picierno goes on a hunger strike to draw attention to this tragedy unfolding before the eyes of the whole world. And what are Witkoff and Kushner doing? That's right, almost nothing. Except for passing along greetings from Putin’s aide to the First Lady. Thousands of people are already eating grass to survive and begging to save their lives. The Ukrainian side raises the issue of Oleshky at every meeting. And I can name dozens of such urgent humanitarian issues off the top of my head where American negotiators must be proactive. Trump’s peace negotiations have already gone down in history as the deadliest years for Ukraine’s civilian population since the start of the full-scale invasion. I don’t know if anyone will remember the names of Witkoff and Kushner. But history will certainly record how American negotiators, who had the opportunity to save a huge number of people, refused to raise uncomfortable questions before "humanist Putin."

In Oleshky, Ukraine, thousands of people are trapped in territory occupied by the Russian army, without regular access to food and medicine. Mined areas make escape extremely dangerous: those who stay risk dying of hunger, those who try to leave risk their lives. To draw international attention to this emergency, I have announced a hunger strike. But this battle cannot be mine alone. I call on associations, citizens, and national and local institutions to join this great nonviolent action. We must demand an immediate humanitarian truce, the entry of food and medicines, and the possibility of safely evacuating civilians who wish to leave the city. You can join by clicking here: spaziopubblico.eu/save-olesh… With this mobilisation, we want to support the efforts of Pope Leo XIV and of all those who, in this moment, are doing everything possible to avert a humanitarian tragedy of enormous proportions. The people of Oleshky cannot be abandoned. It is time to act together, so that diplomacy delivers concrete results and no one is left to die in silence. #saveoleshky 👇 I speak about it in the interview published today in La Repubblica, which you can find below.

Chiedo ad associazioni, cittadini e istituzioni nazionali e locali di aderire a questa grande azione nonviolenta. I thank you for drawing attention to the people starving in Russian-occupied Oleshki. The civilians need to be evacuated urgently. Russia, as an occupying power, must provide people with food, medical supplies, and drinking water.

Today, together with 🇳🇴Ambassador @NorwayAmbUSA Anniken Huitfeldt, we co-hosted a briefing on the humanitarian catastrophe in #Oleshky and surrounding villages in the temporarily occupied Kherson region, for diplomats, U.S. Department of State representatives, human rights organizations, journalists, and think tanks. Before Russia’s full-scale invasion, 25,000 people lived in Oleshky. Today, only around 2,000 remain, including 35 children. For years, they have lived without electricity, gas, heating, or water supply. No food has been officially delivered since May 26, 2026. The only supply route crosses mined territory under the threat of shelling. Ukraine has tried to reach starving residents, including by drone. What is happening in Oleshky echoes the Holodomor of 1932–1933, the genocide committed by the Soviet regime against Ukrainians. Today, Russia is once again using starvation, destruction, and the denial of humanitarian aid as weapons against our people. These are war crimes that demand international attention and concrete action. I am grateful to Ambassador Anniken Huitfeldt and our Norwegian partners @NorwayUS for their solidarity and co-hosting this briefing. Thank you to @avalaina and @ZarinaZabrisky for their powerful testimonies about Oleshky. The people of Oleshky must not be forgotten. Their lives depend on international attention and action.

I will be speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team this week to discuss Starshield, sanctions, and other matters pertaining to the defense of our strong ally, Ukraine. I will be assuring President Zelenskyy that anyone who attempts to limit the use of Starshield for Ukraine will be fully investigated and will be held fully accountable, to include public congressional oversight hearings, and immediate harsh and punitive budget cuts to any responsible agency or agency head. Congress will unequivocally reaffirm that Ukraine is an indispensable ally to the United States, that Russia is a self-declared enemy of the United States, and that the United States will 100% support and defend the people of Ukraine in their fight for their own freedom against this brutal, illegal, and unprovoked Russian invasion. The United States must provide any and all defensive equipment that Ukraine needs to defend itself. The United States must not import a single drop of Russian oil. Sanctions against the Russian regime must be harsher and stronger than they’ve ever been before. Each and every one of these items will be brought to the House Floor—and each and every one of these items will pass on the House Floor by an overwhelming margin. This is, after all, what Ronald Reagan would do. And this is what we will do now. Ukraine can, and will, defeat Russia. #PeaceThroughStrength
