💔 Heartbreaking news from Kherson.
Today, October 27, Volodymyr Obertas, press officer of Ukraine’s 34th Marine Brigade, was killed by an explosive device in Kherson while accompanying medical personnel.
Volodymyr was the talented man behind the wonderful videos we’ve received from the 34th Marine Brigade.
He was originally from Oleshky, the Russian-occupied town across the Dnipro River. He dreamed of returning home.
And here is the heartbreaking irony.
Volodymyr created the video that spread across social media, drawing attention to the desperate situation in Oleshky and helping build momentum for the evacuation of its residents.
Today, on the very first day of the announced ceasefire intended to allow that evacuation, he was killed. Just a few kilometres from his hometown, without ever seeing the outcome of the mission that meant so much to him.
A man who used his camera to show the world what was happening in Ukraine has become another victim of Russia’s war.
Rest in peace, Volodymyr. 🕯️🇺🇦

Good morning, everyone. ☀️ Today we’re going to practise something that seems to be getting lost around here.
Focus.
Take a deep breath. Inhale. Exhale.
Now gently release your ego. Release the need for likes, followers, attention and external validation. You are not the main character. Breathe through that. You’ll be fine. 😁
Now imagine opening your timeline and seeing Ukrainian voices being amplified. News about the people killed overnight. Volunteers getting the visibility they desperately need. Defenders receiving support. Collections with transparency and receipts.
Beautiful, isn’t it?
Now gently release the petty arguments, popularity contests, personality worship and endless political noise. You don’t have to participate in every argument. Not every thought requires a 47-post thread.
Inhale accountability. Exhale performative activism.
Remember why we came together in the first place. It wasn’t to become internet celebrities. It wasn’t to compete for attention or decide who’s the most important person in the room.
It was to stand with Ukraine.
While we’re arguing about who said what to whom, Ukrainians are burying their loved ones. Families are grieving. Defenders are fighting. Volunteers are trying to get help to people who need it.
Take another breath.
Ask yourself: Am I amplifying Ukraine, or am I amplifying myself?
There’s room for laughter, friendship, personal stories and community here. Those things matter too. But somewhere along the way, we cannot lose sight of the reason this community exists.
Now slowly open your eyes.
Find your focus. Amplify Ukrainian voices. Support the people doing the work. Honour those who can no longer speak for themselves.
And remember, this is not a competition for the main character award.

Four 🇺🇦defenders of Azovstal, who were just 18, 19, 20 and 21 years old at the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, have finally returned from captivity.
The four men are from the same city. They were friends before joining the military and enlisted in the 🇺🇦 Azov Regiment one after another.
They defended Mariupol together, broke through to Azovstal, and were later taken captive by russia.
The youngest, Maksym, returned home in May 2023. Artem was released in May 2026. And on October 23, the last two friends, both named Dmytro, were freed from captivity.

Хлопці родом з одного міста, дружили ще до служби й один за одним долучилися до «Азову».
Разом обороняли Маріуполь, прорвалися на «Азовсталь», а потім потрапили в російський полон.
Наймолодший, Максим, повернувся ще у травні 2023 року. Артем – у травні 2026-го. А 23 жовтня з полону звільнили останніх двох друзів – Дмитра та Дмитра.

⚠️ Oleshky and russian propaganda. There are signs that russia is preparing a propaganda campaign around its supposed “rescue operation” in Oleshky. I’ll quote a post by @ZarinaZabrisky with more details. It’s crucial to expose the russian narrative for what it is.
🎥 Human Safari Kherson. Zarina has also shared that a second film is in post-production, covering Kherson and Oleshky. A third film is in the works, focusing on the defenders of Kherson and their extraordinary fight. Their stories deserve to be told.
And finally, something beautiful to end on. 🌈
