My favorite drive all season - so good I made the run through here, up to the top of Evans Notch, twice. The area as a whole is past peak but this? Birches be birchin'. -- October 18, 2026 Evans Notch (White Mountains) Maine

The nor’easter lashing Nantucket with wind and rain this weekend has uncovered the remains of a shipwreck along the island’s south shore. The fragment is likely from the 19th century schooner Warren Sawyer, a wooden ship that wrecked near Miacomet Beach on December 22, 1884.

The 2026 Atlantic #hurricane season continues to be remarkably quiet, generating the least Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) of any Atlantic hurricane season through September 16 since 1950. ACE is an integrated metric accounting for storm intensity and duration. #ElNino

Here we go! Our 4th day of the heatwave is today, but thankfully not quite as hot as the last two days & with relief on the way! A Heat Advisory has replaced the Extreme Heat Warning until 8pm. Drink lots of water and stay cool! Feels like temps 95°-102°. @wbz

It's the first time we've had two 100F days total in a year since 1952. First back to back since 1944. #wbz

Reports of an explosion hears around Boston I believe are going to be a rather significant bolide/meteor entering the atmosphere. Very large "flash" detected by GOES-19 GLM that does not correlate with active thunderstorms. #MAwx

Here you go folks. Definitely a meteor causing that big boom! @wbz

The flash density product really shows this anomalous "flash" which is pretty distinctive of a bolide/meteor reentry. east of Boston. This is the likely source of the loud boom/explosion.

With a significant winter storm arriving tonight, be prepared for possible power outages. • Keep electronic devices, including cell phones and essential medical devices, fully charged. • Use generators and grills outside because their fumes contain carbon monoxide. • Call 9-1-1 to report emergencies, including downed power lines, or if you are dependent on equipment that requires electricity and need medical assistance.
[Potentially Historic/Destructive Storm southeast of the BOS-PVD corridor] We are very concerned for areas southeast of the Boston-Providence corridor where wet snow combines with northeast wind gusts of 60-70 mph. Power outages & tree damage. Worst conditions Mon 4 am to noon.
