Glad to hear @JimThorpePA and Mauch Chunk on @TheRestHistory. The name Mauch Chunk comes from the native Lenape. Jim Thope was a member of the Sac and Fox Nation. Since the English have few place name references to their own British forebears, the hilarity comes as no surprise.
🚨 NEW EPISODE 🚨 🎢 Disneyland: The Modern American Utopia 🎢 Following Monday’s exploration of the life and times of Walt Disney, today Tom and Dominic strap in for a ride through the history of theme parks, and especially DISNEYLAND. 🥶 How were rollercoasters first invented in 18th-century Russia? ⛲️ What role did South London play in inspiring Disneyland? 🕯️ And why is there a flame kept burning in a particular spot in Disneyland to this very day?

Fabulous discussion, @wmarybeard @holland_tom. But a question: is there any sense that Julius Caesar was assassinated as he prepared to invade Parthia, because of fears among his enemies that victory would have made him untouchable as a national hero?
📣NEW MEMBERS EPISODE WITH MARY BEARD📣 Mary talks to Tom about Julius Caesar, and much more besides: 🤔To what extent was the Roman Republic a democracy? 🏛️How the republic differed to the empire 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨What was the Romans' attitude to homosexuality?

Hey, @netflix @HBO @AppleTV @paramountplus. Anybody up for a reboot of Nick & Nora? If so, I recommend Meghann Fahy for the role of Nora Charles.

Quick question, @BryanVanNorden. Could you recommend a book about the life and philosophy of Mengzi for general readers?

Life in itself is neither good nor evil. It is the place of good and evil, according to what you make it.

Speaking of underlying thinking errors, this author presentation on the dynamics of 'misbelief' is pretty fascinating: c-span.org/video/?530484-1/m… @DonJRobertson
What if, instead of criticizing anti-semites and other bigots directly, we focused on the underlying thinking errors visible in their language? You'd probably have to expose the fallacies in their reasoning countless times but maybe eventually it would affect their thinking.

Fascinating discussion here about #Buddhism and #Stoicism, and the migration of philosophical ideas between the ancent East and West. Thanks to @DonJRobertson and @MatthewZGindin. Did the Buddha know of Heraclitus? Did Indian traders debate with Socrates? donaldrobertson.substack.com…

Doubtless you will derive enjoyment during the time when you are improving your mind and setting it at peace with itself. But quite different is the pleasure that comes from contemplation, when one's mind is so cleansed from every stain that it shines. - Seneca

If wisdom were given to me under the express condition that it must be kept hidden and not uttered, I should refuse it. No good thing is pleasant to possess, without friends to share it. - Seneca

People of practical wisdom, like bees that extract honey from thyme, the most pungent and driest of plants, draw from the most unfavorable circumstances something that suits them and is useful. - Plutarch
