I wonder if the 15 year olds who were hurriedly inserting £1 coins into CatD games this week started on these! Let's not let height/age impede the start of a gambling addiction' eh. @bacta @GRHAPPG @NHS_NGS @TheGraspGroup @gamvisory @bactauk

Speaking with 15 year old machine players this week, in Scarborough arcades. "It's the adrenaline mate". So @bactauk the voluntary code is clearly failing. Time for a statutory ban on U18s accessing gambling machines.

Inducements and incentives to gamble don't consist solely of free bets from the big firms. Lots of harm continues to be done on a 'micro' level. Harm that has a big impact upon young people. Conversations with young machine players this week, show that the problem remains!

The only free ATMs on Scarborough seafront are situated close to Gambling machines. This has to stop.

(1) In the late 70s/ early 80s, my grandad had a small independent bookies. He did OK, but had a conscience. He used to restrict people's spend when they came in pissed, or came in after work with a week's wages. He recognised vulnerability and in his own way was deploying ...

(3) ... then illegality of providing inducements to gamble & how that was being sidestepped. Of course the liberalisation of gambling ushered in by 'New Labour' (unbelievably) allowed for the prioritisation of profit over the wellbeing of individuals and this is where we are...

(4) ... it strikes me that comments such as the one above constitute the zenith of the trajectory my late grandad predicted all those years ago. So sad, because it really doesn't need to be that way.
Good to see the segment on BBC news today, re women and gambling harm. Very worrying numbers, but a very welcome focus.

If you’re someone who doesn’t have a problem with gambling, that’s great, but if you resent helping those who do & speak out against prevention & protection – we would ask you to think again – your help is needed to make gambling safer. #DontBetYOURLIFEOnIt … #PlayerProtection

Addiction is the core component of the #gamblingindustry business model. Sporting bodies are addicted to sponsorship revenue and governments to gambling taxes - in turn feeding off the devastating addictions of tens of thousands of individuals. The cycle MUST be broken.

Radio has been full of #gamblingadverts using Christmas songs to push their products. Still putting the responsibility on the individual. The data they hold flags addicts. They use this for prtofit, not to help these people. If you are struggling, speak out, get help – at Billinge, England

"I used to like football, used to love it when I was younger, now I hate it. Gambling took all the fun out of it. I used to watch it and enjoy it, but now it's just whether I'm going to win the bet I put on. It takes over your life." liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liv…
