The Government™ has made an ad about the protests happening around the world, and it’s surprisingly honest and informative.🌍🌎🌏

There's a wilful refusal in UKHSA, the NHS and Govt to accept that clean air is as necessary in everyday life as clean food, water and hands. The whole system cost of clean air is enormously less than the whole system cost of the consequences of respiratory and airborne diseases.

One hundred percent! I've brought this up before.
It's an everyday thing now. It's become the norm.
It's NOT NORMAL.

Remember when these natural disasters were so rare that the country would rally together to help. We’d do telethons, celebrities would come together and utilize their star power. Now we just do nothing as everyday there’s a new Catrina level disaster

I've been revisiting @UKLabour's 2024 manifesto, and some of the commitments are extraordinary given where we are today...
- Defend the international rule of law.
- Uphold international law in Gaza.
- Recognise Palestinian statehood as an inalienable right.
- Reject new oil and gas exploration because it worsens the climate crisis.
These weren't demands from protesters.
THEY WERE LABOUR'S OWN PROMISES!
The government shouldn't need reminding what the principles are. It already wrote them down and commited to them!
The question is why those principles become negotiable the moment defending them carries a political cost.

A new study has examined 20,736 scientific publications about climate tipping points. Several of those are estimated to be crossed around 1.5 degrees warming, i.e. any time soon: permafrost thaw, Greenland Ice Sheet, North Atlantic Subpolar Gyre.

I just came across a BBC article from January 2021 about Long Covid (see last tweet). Looking back, it is devastating to realize how much scientists and public health experts already knew about the severity of this condition years ago.

Which country is going to cut production to compensate for the UK’s increase? Jackdaw means additional gas production & emissions, not substitution.
Worse, it sends a dangerous signal: backsliding on climate commitments is acceptable, provided you dress it up as “pragmatism”.

Online meeting: 4 our of 7 were sick. One person works in disability sector & has RSV. She said she thinks she passed it onto 4 clients, & one of those ended up in hospital. Her final words on the subject were, "Oh well, someone gave it to me in the first place anyway". FmL 😡

Elon says he is a “utopian anarchist” as defined by Iain M. Banks—who wrote a series about a futuristic spacefaring society called “the Culture.” Elon’s favorite volume Surface Detail stars an inconceivably rich sadistic oligarch named Joiler Veppers.
Veppers secretly controls 70% of his civilization’s computing infrastructure. But his data centers are unique. Veppers stores AIs which torture the digital consciousness of people who have been condemned to be punished for all time. The torture chambers are called Hells, and Veppers rents them out to governments to make himself rich.
The way people are uploaded to Hells is a technology called “neural lace” which is a chip that interfaces with your brain. In a different book, neural lace is called “the most efficient torture device ever created.”
Another thing Veppers does with his data centers is use his AIs to covertly interfere with other civilizations’ interstellar wars when he wants. Kind of like crippling Starlink in Ukraine.
Elon Musk is living in a demented science fiction alternate reality. Except it’s real enough to kill a lot more actual people.

This guy is gonna have his mind blown when he looks up how they managed to attain those rights.
France has FREE health care, paid parental leave, paid family leave, FREE child care, FREE preschool, 5 weeks paid vacation, a 35 hour work week, generous unemployment and housing benefits, and heavily subsidized higher education.
Everything the left says they want AND THEY'RE STILL PROTESTING AND BURNING SHIT DOWN.

The day Labour approves Jackdaw is the day the UN announce 1.5 is lost
The chance to keep global warming below 1.5°C with no overshoot is gone.
But urgent action can still limit the overshoot and bring warming back to 1.5°C by 2100.
Current policies, however, put the 🌎 on course for up to 2.8°C this century.
