I’m so proud that Merton has once again been rated Outstanding for our Children’s Services.
This means a lot to me because I’ve always believed our children & young people should lead the way. Their voices guide us and I’m proud of everyone who helps make that real in #Merton 💜
📣 Merton’s Children’s Services are Outstanding
We’re thrilled to announce that our support for children and their families has retained our Outstanding rating, first awarded in 2022.

ALT Cllr Usaama Kaweesa with quote from press release
I grew up in #Merton, and I want all our children to have the opportunities that made all the difference to me, so they can enjoy their childhood and go on to fulfil their potential.
Looking forward to putting this plan into action and giving our children the best start in life.
Really encouraging to see #Merton recognised as one of the best places to grow up. A reflection of the hard work of our schools and children's services. There's always more to do, but I'm proud of what we're achieving for our children and families.

Congratulations to Sagal Abdi-Wali on becoming the first Somali-born woman elected to the UK Parliament.
A historic milestone for Somali representation in British public life, and a moment worth celebrating this #BlackHistoryMonth
Following yesterday's by-election in Holborn and St Pancras, Sagal Abdi-Wali has been elected as a Member of Parliament.

Huge congratulations to @Sagal_AW, the new MP for Holborn and St Pancras! Proud to have played a small part in her positive and hopeful campaign @CamdenLabour.
So pleased for her and excited to see what she continues to achieve for #Camden residents! #LabourHold
Thank you to @GoodGym #Merton and @SustainableMert for making me feel so welcome as we helped out at the Merton Community Fridge at @MordenBapChurch.
If you’re looking for a way to get active, meet new people and give a little of your time to support our community, give it a go!
Can’t wait to race through the streets I grew up on!
Thanks to #RunSouthLondon for sharing a bit of my #running story. Training has now properly begun, with a little help from @MordenParkrun!
Would be great to see some familiar faces in the race: runsouthlondon.com #Merton
Good to stop by and help out at the Mayor’s Silver Sunday afternoon tea for our older residents, after a morning out with our fantastic @Siobhain_Mc chatting to residents about local issues.
Lovely to meet Dean too, who’s doing fantastic work at Tooting and Mitcham FC. #Merton
Thanks to @MordenParkrun, my training for the Run South London #HalfMarathon has well and truly begun!
Thank you to all the fantastic volunteers who make this happen for us every Saturday. #LoveParkrun
Turns out I don’t know my Prime Ministers as well as I thought I did @Poli_Monitor 😂 #Lab26 #HopeAgain
I remember being in their shoes, so it was great to join young people from @UKPatchwork at their first @UKLabour Conference.
Patchwork helped me believe I could #GetInvolved. So I was proud to share my journey and encourage them to think: “I could do that too.” #Lab26 #HopeAgain
I still hate needles, but the lovely staff at @GiveBloodNHS make it that little bit easier. The free snacks help too!
If you can, please give it a go: blood.co.uk

Congratulations to all the young people recognised @JPFoundation Awards, and to our good friend Joel who’s doing great work with @WoodcraftFolk!
Thanks to the teachers, youth workers and volunteers who keep encouraging our young people and helping them believe they can achieve.
The best part of last week’s visit to Downing Street was seeing the young people from @UKPatchwork ask questions and make the most of the chance to speak with and learn from very senior civil servants.
I hope they came away knowing they belong in places like that. #GetInvolved
The year I spent in Greece supporting unaccompanied children has stayed with me, so it meant a lot to reunite with @BritishRedCross. Here’s to the next 30 years and all the young people who’ll get this chance.
I wrote a little about that experience here: wearerestless.org/2017/09/08…
Loved being out in Camden supporting @Sagal_AW and her brilliant campaign. A campaign full of hope, energy and the belief that politics really can change lives. As it did hers.
Vote for Hope. #VoteLabour
Every child growing up in #Merton deserves to have a fun childhood, whatever their family’s circumstances.
As Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, one of my absolute priorities is making sure cost is never a reason a child misses out.
Thanks @Devina4Labour for raising this.
Happy 100th anniversary to Morden Station!
It was great to celebrate this milestone for a station that’s been part of Morden for generations and has reliably got me into central London for as long as I can remember.
Here’s to the next 100 years at the end of the #NorthernLine!
Loved getting out there and actually running this one to celebrate this @MordenParkRun milestone.
Nearly 300 of us took part, and a huge thank you to the brilliant volunteers who make it happen every single Saturday.
Here’s to the next 100 🏃🏾
