Outlook for NW & central-northern Europe is fairly dry this week & then for NW Europe v. dry the week after. This October isn't shaping up as you might expect based on the strongest El Niño events in the historical record - a reminder that it's not the dominant player in Europe.

In keeping with the Hurn figures, this month reached 334.5 hours sunshine here yesterday, making it the sunniest calendar month on record with 4 days still to go. Prior record was 335.4 hours in May 2020. Absolutely stupendous.

Wowowow, basically no measurable rainfall for the entire 16 day outlook for Ireland and many in the UK.

This branch was cut 2 yrs ago, in a friend’s garden. Stored in a shed, and brought here a month ago. Life *will* find a way… Gonna put one in soil

Dramaric scenes at Church Hill in Scalby as a large tree in the churchyard has come crashing down into the road. Blocked to traffic, but tree surgeons are cutting it up in a major highways operation.

Wondering where the sunshine has gone? Spare a thought for northeast Scotland; Aberdeen Dyce hasn't recorded any sunshine since 21 January! This is provisionally the longest sunless period here since records began in 1957 ☁️

There is a LOT of ensemble spread now. The closer the lines are the more confidence we can have in the forecast. The spread is largely down to an increasing number of ensembles finding cold or very cold solutions later in the month. Momentum continues to grow.

A big change to the feel of the weather for much of Europe next week, temperatures widely above average. More variable for the UK & Ireland with some mild days & some chilly ones as weather systems move through. Anomalously wet in western parts of Europe but mostly not by much.
