Your reply is a pure, transparent deflection. Resolution 242 (November 1967) has nothing to do with who started the 1948 war or the sequence that followed the UN Partition Plan. The 1948 record is unambiguous. On 29 November 1947, UN General Assembly Resolution 181 recommended partitioning the British Mandate into a Jewish state and an Arab state (with Jerusalem internationalized). The Jewish leadership accepted it. The Arab Higher Committee and the Arab League rejected it outright and immediately launched violence to prevent any Jewish state from existing. Fighting began the day after the vote with Arab attacks on Jewish communities. On 14 May 1948 Israel declared independence on the basis of the partition framework. The next day armies from Egypt, Transjordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq invaded with the stated goal of destroying the new state. Arab leaders said so in plain language beforehand:Arab League Secretary-General Abdul Rahman Azzam Pasha (interview in the Egyptian paper Akhbar al-Yom, 11 October 1947): “I personally wish that the Jews do not drive us to this war, as this will be a war of extermination and momentous massacre which will be spoken of like the Tartar massacre or the Crusader wars.” Jamal al-Husseini of the Arab Higher Committee (statement to the UN Ad Hoc Committee, 29 September 1947): the Palestinian Arabs would “drench the soil of the Holy Land with the last drop of our blood in the lawful defense of all and every inch of it.” This sequence—Jewish acceptance, Arab rejection, immediate attacks, then multi-state invasion—is not contested by serious historians (Benny Morris, standard reference works, contemporary U.S. and British records). Continuous Jewish presence plus legal land purchases under Ottoman and British rule formed the baseline; the war produced refugees on both sides. Resolution 242 does not say “Israel must unilaterally withdraw from all territories with no reciprocity.” It calls for withdrawal of Israeli forces from territories occupied in the 1967 conflict, termination of all states of belligerency, recognition of every state’s right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries, a just refugee settlement, and freedom of navigation. It is a framework for negotiated peace. The deliberate omission of “the” or “all” before “territories” in the English text was intentional, as its drafters later confirmed. Mocking a source while ignoring the actual 1947–48 timeline and the primary Arab statements does not rewrite the order of events.
