Scientists have discovered a new species of cat for the first time in over a century.
Smaller than an average housecat and covered in leopard-like spots, the cat species — proposed name Leopardus tilcayo —lives in Bolivia’s Yungas forest ecoregion.

Doing a PhD is - at heart - one long discussion with your mentor. The discussion changes over time - with unexpected turns and ups & downs - but through it all is two people discussing a topic endlessly to make sense of it. PhD students: choose someone you like to talk to.

BREAKING: The NBA has ruled on the Los Angeles Clippers in for salary cap circumvention investigations on Kawhi Leonard after yearlong probe -- stripping the franchise of 5 first-round picks, issuing a $30 million fine to owner Steve Ballmer and suspensions for Ballmer, Lawrence Frank and Gillian Zucker, sources tell ESPN.
Kawhi Leonard will have to pay $700,000 in restitution for improper benefits by the Clippers for his uncle and former business rep, Dennis Robertson. No contract void or suspension for Leonard. And Robertson -- who was fired by Leonard in June -- is being banned by the NBA from all business dealings.

Carnegie Mellon University currently pausing all CPT applications for the semester. This breaks the pipeline for bringing in new talent to top-end and ultra-competitive areas like AI and robotics. The result is stuff like this, where talented people avoid the US ->

“Why watch actual sports when we could just use AI? We wouldn’t have to pay those pesky athletes and it would be so much safer” is one of the most upsetting takes I’ve seen in a while

I use AI heavily for validating ideas and prototyping things, but I’m much more cautious about AI use for anything that I need to ultimately publish and stand behind. One unfortunate consequence of speeding up prototyping more than execution is that I now have a much bigger pile of interesting, validated ideas that I simply don’t have time to properly get started on. This has been bothering me but I’ve learned to come to terms with it. What would be even worse is starting tons of projects with AI, making partial progress, but never completing and publishing them. Project management skills like ranking projects by priority and making explicit go/no-go decisions were always a good idea, but have now become essential in order to avoid losing our sanity.
You'd think Slim, of all people, would know the importance of responding to the people who write him letters.
I'm sorry we never got a chance to meet, but getting this note from Dolly really had a an impact on me. She definitely didn't have to take the time to do it. Even for a kid who mostly listened to rap music, she was an icon. A superstar in every sense. Rest easy Dolly. And thank you for the kind words.

Mike D’Antoni says one of the biggest disappointments of his Hall of Fame career took him exactly where he needed to go
“Sometimes life’s disappointments can take you exactly where you belong.”
“After playing in the NBA, I went to Italy, spent the next 17 years with Olimpia Milano as their point guard and coach.”
“Under my coach Dan Peterson, my career exploded. This showed me how confidence can transform players. Thank you coach.”

I had Claude, Gronk, and Chat GPT each write our strategic plans. Then I had Meta consolidate them. Then I rewrite them so they feel less intelligent, like a faculty member did the work.

Seinfeld episode 2026: Jerry gets tickets courtside and brings George, who decides, with the Knicks down 20 with 10 minutes left, he will leave the game early to beat the rush out of MSG.
As the Knicks mount a comeback he tries to get back into the Garden. He waves his ticket, name drops James Dolan, but nothing works and he ends up getting arrested.
Meantime, Kramer sneaks into the Garden and helps Mike Brown draw up the game winning play.
