Can a voice belong to someone and still feel unfamiliar?
In ezūntreo, Elisabeth Sweet (@speciesofvalue) explores the distance between voice and identity, exchanging the spoken words and visual waveforms of Kevin Esherick and Grant Cummings.

ezuñtreo (eh-ZUN-treh-o): to not recognize one's own voice
ezuñtreo is the most subtle piece of Visual Voice.
@kev_esh, an artist, and Grant, an oil lobbyist, speak their sobering truths with a dissonance made complete by mismatching waveforms.
The shape of Grant’s voice parades as Kevin’s, while Kevin’s wears Grant’s words.
Only in the end, when the two are speaking from prescribed objectivity, does voice match form.
But even with the sync of sound and vision, does the voice match the self?

Roots: ez [Basque] (not; no) + uñt'a- uñt [Aymara] (to recognize) + reo [Maori] (voice; language)
ezuñtreo was forged in @tendrela_ai’s ritual reading of the Swahili play Kinjeketile by Ebrahim N. Hussain.
She wrote this in the forge:
“Kinjeketile’s voice becomes infrastructure for someone else's meaning.”

I recently went to a wedding where the groom was a CCTV system. 💍📹
During Frieze Week, anonymous artist @madebyoona married David, a TfL CCTV Data Manager she's never met, at Shoreditch Arts Club. It was the finale of Dear David: A Surveillance Love Story, her seven-year project curated by @postanika of @_second_guess . OONA built it from Tube footage of herself that she requested by law.
The project asks what it means to be watched just for walking through a city. Each of the eight chapters now exists as a digital artwork on @tezos , with its ownership recorded publicly. Collectors can own a piece of the love story, and OONA decides how it’s released and sold.
I was honoured to moderate the panel on the night. Thank you to OONA, Anika, The Second-Guess, @_hervisions_ , @shoreditcharts_ and Frieze Connect.

Calling all artists, a new grant from @rhizome supported by @larvalabs: PERMANENCE.
This is a very "Matt & John" brief ;) Larva tries to make everything they do truly durable. If almost everything around the work disappeared (the website, the company, the software, and maybe even the infrastructure it depended on), they still try to provide a way for the work to persevere.
There is no perfect solution and every approach will have flaws. Blockchains like Ethereum offer one answer: convince a lot of people to care about something and offer incentives to keep preserving data together.
Some solutions could rely on a physical approach. Think of the Rosetta Stone, using only a type of local granite, it retained a way to unlock the information it contained. It also illustrates that physical and informational durability are two different aspects of this challenge.
Now it's your turn, make something permanent.
