Another fatal luxury car crash that killed a scooterist in Kerala by a 17 year old, son of District Judge ⚠️
Victim's Niece was told,
"Don't teach me law, you have no rights to question me" - Minor's father(additional district judge)
"Don't overreact and get emotionally driven, he is just a 17 year old kid" - Kerala Police
The accident occurred at around 2:20 AM to 3:00 AM at Cheranalloor in Kochi. A speeding luxury Mercedes-Benz car, registered under the name of the additional judge, rammed into a scooter from behind. The scooter rider, 55-year-old Jayabalakrishnan of Manjali, was killed. He was a local street vendor returning home after closing his wayside eatery (thattukada) near a temple in Chittoor.
The 17-year-old minor, who does not possess a driving license, reportedly took the car out for a night drive. He was speeding at 100km/hr while the crash occured as per reports. The victim's niece JAYALAKSHMI claims that the accused was not shown to them at the police station and Kerala police insisted them to not get emotionally driven by this incident as if this isn't a big loss at all. The father of the 17 year old accused who is a district court judge spoke rudely at the police station asking them not to teach him law as per Jayalakshmi's claim.
The central issue is the loss of a human life. Jayabalakrishnan's family has suffered an irreversible loss, and the circumstances surrounding his death must be investigated thoroughly. The victim and his family deserve justice, while the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings must establish responsibility on the basis of evidence rather than influence, status or public speculation.

Election Commission filed more than 12 lakh appeals against West Bengal voters, and every one of them carries the same date: April 5, 2026.
As reported by @chhuti_is in @thewire_in , based on appeal records compiled by the Civic Research Group, the Election Commission appealed against 16,08,175 of the 32,53,401 Bengal voters whom judicial officers had examined and found eligible. That is 49.4%.
This number is not in dispute. In its own September submission to Supreme Court, ECI itself reported 16,10,311 appeals against inclusion.
What is new is when they were filed.
The Wire's verification of unique appeal IDs shows that 99% of the appeals carry one of three dates -
🔹April 5: 12,15,318 appeals (87%)
🔹April 6: 1,39,954 appeals
🔹April 8: 30,102 appeals
Now look at the calendar. Judicial officers finished examining more than 60 lakh cases by the first week of April. The rolls for the Assembly election were frozen at midnight on April 7. Polling began on April 23.
So within days of judges clearing these voters & on the eve of the freeze, the Commission filed appeals against nearly half of them.
Do the arithmetic. 12.15 lakh appeals in a single day works out to about 14 appeals every second, around the clock for 24 hours.
Acc. to The Wire a single timestamp shared by more than 12 lakh appeals points to appeals created or uploaded as a batch.
These were individual citizens, each one cleared by a judge after their documents were examined. Was even one of their cases individually reviewed before the Commission challenged it?
There's more. A retired judge sitting as an appellate tribunal in Murshidabad said on record that a substantial share of the appeals before him were filed by the Additional Chief Electoral Officer's office.
The Commission still hasn't disclosed the grounds for these appeals, who authorised them, or how they were prepared.
Questions that Election Commission answer:
🔹How were more than 12 lakh appeals generated on a single day, April 5?
🔹Was each voter's case individually examined before an appeal was filed against them? If so, by whom, and when?
🔹Who ordered these appeals, and why were they filed just before the rolls froze?
🔹On what grounds did the Commission challenge voters whom judges had already cleared?
🔹Will it withdraw every appeal that was not based on an individual review of the voter's case?
Judges examined each voter one by one. The Commission appears to have challenged them in bulk.

Stopping construction can't be the solution. Strict regulations & enforcement of the same will largely minimize the issue but for that:
1. Competent people (and not just ideological soulmates) need to be consulted
AND
2. Govt should have the political will to enforce compliance
Ive never seen such a hazy mumbai afternoon. Mind you thats not fog, its boiling in mumbai rt now. This is smog. Mumbai skies are full of pollution. And we are inhaling this poison night and day. Authorities have given 24 hour construction permission in this city. This is a ticking time bomb and i wonder what is @BJP4India doing about it?

2/5: Tanker bookings in Hyderabad have surged to between 6,000 & 8,000 a day. In several areas on the city’s outskirts, drinking water is being supplied once every 3-4 days.
3/5: In a first-of-its-kind initiative for Hyderabad, the water board will launch green tanker services from 1 Nov to promote reuse of treated wastewater for non-drinking purposes.
4/5: State govt has announced fines for misuse of drinking water. First-time offenders will face fine of Rs 1,000; overflowing overhead tanks to attract penalty too.
5/5 What has caused the water crisis in Hyderabad & how did it get so bad? How are residents doing their bit to save water?

Mumbai has the sea, and for decades the sea breeze cleaned our air. This year it isn’t enough, and for the second time in 2026 our air has been worse than Delhi’s.
The winds have slowed, so the smoke stays with us. Just south of the city, in Alibaug and in the rural belts around Mumbai, garbage is burnt in the open because villages have no system to collect or dispose of it. My sensors recorded PM2.5 above 1,000 next to roadside garbage fires and 300–400 in parts of Alibaug. No official monitor is there to record it. Add crop burning inland, and depending on the winds, the combined impact on Mumbai could be significant.
Then come the firecrackers. Our tests found toxic heavy metals in them, including crackers sold as “green”, and that label means nothing when the rules aren’t enforced. The city gets no time to recover, with Christmas and New Year still ahead. I have written to the Chief Minister documenting firecrackers being burst on roads and footpaths despite the High Court’s ban.
All firecrackers should be banned. Children, the elderly and anyone with breathing problems will suffer first.
The Bombay High Court has called this an emergency, and BMC, MPCB and the police must report on October 26.@CMOMaharashtra @Dev_Fadnavis

Doctor Randall Sequeira moved to Odisha’s Kalahandi to work with tribal communities, travelling to remote villages and holding health camps. Years later, he is in judicial custody after being arrested in connection with an anti-mining protest.
Police have linked his arrest to a clash between tribals and police over the Sijimali bauxite project, while activists have condemned the action. Here’s a look at the case and the allegations surrounding his arrest.
