As @TylerRaeDesign is leading the restoration of Mountain Lake—one of my favorite golf courses—I couldn’t help but share a few photos of a past project of his: @WakondaClub
“Tyler Rae’s thoughtful restoration of Wakonda Club in 2023 improved infrastructure and reclaimed the architectural brilliance of William Langford & Theodore Moreau. Langford & Moreau built bold features around Wakonda’s rolling topography and Rae’s work reclaimed those more than 100 years later. As a result, the course improved in every aspect and offers golfers everything they’d want out of a Golden Age layout,” said Aaron Krueger, General Manager / Director of Golf at Wakonda Club.

First played September 30-October 2, 2022, The Farrell honors the legacy of longtime Stanwich Head Golf Professional Billy Farrell.
The Farrell consists of 18 holes of on-site Stroke Play qualifying, from which the low 16 competitors advance to Match Play in divisions for men, women, and seniors.

Great piece by @GabbyHerzig . Highly recommend reading.
The Yale Golf Course just got a $30 million Gil Hanse restoration.
Now, Yale is charging $350 for the public to play…with poor and patchy turf conditions.
So, what happened?

Very few brands have caught more golfers’ attention than @CharlieGolf_Co in the past few years.

Designed from 1923 to 1925 by Seth Raynor, Country Club of Charleston has been restored over the years by John LaFoy (1990–1991), following the devastation of Hurricane Hugo; Brian Silva (2006), using photographs of the original course; and Kyle Franz (2016–2018), after the club uncovered more information on Raynor’s design.
Recently, Franz completed a new comprehensive restoration.

With the @PresidentsCup arriving at @MedinahCC, a before & after of Course No. 3: new green complexes, bolder bunkering, wider fairways, a rerouted finish around Lake Kadijah and the fence-line holes at 1,2 & 3. Can't wait to see it tested.
Candyroot’s double-pennant pin flags play off the fact that the property’s first course is triangular. Also, the pennant-style flag is very coastal in nature, which is a nod to the fact that the Carolina Sandhills are an ancient coastline of the U.S.

Designed by @HoffmanSl , the 7-hole short course named “Track Iron 7,” tucked into the southwestern edge of the property, features three double greens, “more severe than the 18-hole golf course.”
“The name ‘Track Iron 7’ comes from the golf club developed in the late 1800s used to hit balls out of cart-wheel ruts in Scotland. Young Tom Morris actually was the first to use the Track Iron (also called a Rut Iron) as we currently use wedges,” said Hoffman. “We thought it was a neat way to honor that history with our ‘wedge’ course. It also has a double meaning with the words ‘track’ and ‘iron’ and their train meanings.”

Hole 3 (my favorite hole at Applebrook) is a short Par-4, potentially drivable to a punchbowl green. A good drive carries the pot bunker and kicks forward. Those who lay up must avoid the pot bunker.
“It is one of the trickiest reads we have ever built on a green.” — Gil Hanse
A bluebird afternoon at Applebrook Golf Club today, and the Home of Hanse was playing as good as ever.
Seems like this course flies under the radar of many golfers outside the region, and I’m not sure why. I think it’s the best course built in the Philadelphia area over the last 25 years (Applebrook opened in 2001), and it’s a blast to play for a wide array of skill levels.
Add a warm and welcoming membership, one of the best pro staffs in the region, terrific facilities and a great post-round hang, and I won’t be turning down any Applebrook invites in the near future. Neither should you. 🦊

Originally designed by Walter Travis, Great Dunes was Travis’ final design, as he passed away before the course officially opened in 1928.
Now fully-restored by Brian Ross (Ross Golf Design) and Jeffrey Stein (Stein Golf Design), the project also included the creation of nine new Travis-inspired holes on a portion of the former Oleander Course to complete the new 18-hole Great Dunes Course.
