Modi Govt deals another lethal blow against drugs with Operation Trident. Our agencies launched a barrage of simultaneous crackdowns across 38 locations in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on 23 October, smashing an international narco-cartel. The operation revealed ₹100 crore worth of hawala transactions, froze 1,424 bank accounts, attached properties worth ₹17.82 crore, seized 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash, and led to the arrest of 18 people. The network trafficked narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through the Death Triangle Corridor. The offensive attests to India’s Himalayan resolve to realise the mission of eradicating every drug network by 31 December 2029. India will hammer until the last nail is driven into the coffin of drug cartels. Heartiest congratulations to the anti-narcotics team comprising central agencies, and police forces of the three states.

China is building a 60,000 MW dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo at Medog. India’s answer, the 11,200 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project, was first proposed in 1983 and declared a national project in 2008. Last year or so, India finally made moves to get the project rolling. On Friday night, a mob that called itself “Gen Z” set fire to the NHPC office and a police station in Pasighat, looted the homes of two MLAs and injured more than 40 police personnel. Arunachal holds about 40% of India’s hydropower potential. Its installed capacity is 2,115 MW. Every project of national scale now has to get past veto points, most of it is just stalled out of motivated malice. From survey consent, social impact assessments, environmental clearances, litigation, local politics, and finally the violent street veto. Really need to think if Democrazy as it is practised in India today has anything remotely useful to offer especially considering economic aspirations via @timesofindia

I think people are losing here. Has anyone thought about why any doctor wants to reuse anything when the new devices are available? If you know the answer, you will never support this decision of @MoHFW_INDIA The safety concern is blown out of proportion, as current sterilization techniques eliminate that concern completely. The single biggest reason why people reuse is the non affordability for the patient.

I hope the government reconsiders it's directive on Single use devices. It will make Dialysis unaffordable for the vast majority. Despite PMNDP, a large number of patients still rely on schemes and reuse of Dialyzers in private dialysis units. @MoHFW_INDIA @DghsIndia @PMOIndia
Replying to @amitsurg
The cost of every dialysis done for patients will increase 3-4 times with dialyser becoming single use. It’s not just a financial disaster for patients who already struggle with significant monthly costs. Many of them may just fall out and suffer catastrophic consequences. Ayushman Bharat too will take a huge blow. The single most commonly done procedure in private setups under Ayushman Bharat is dialysis and this will suddenly become totally unviable. The volume of dialysis being done at pvt centers under AB will likely come down to zero and hit the total volume of AB itself by as much as 50%. I don’t know who has advised the govt on this, but it is a massive blunder. @MoHFW_INDIA @JPNadda @narendramodi

Maharashtra | The Mumbai ATS has arrested Mohammad Hasan Abu Sarmad Akhtar (33) from Mahim on allegations of having links to the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). An examination of his mobile phone revealed inflammatory posts and audio clips featuring Masood Azhar. Investigations are also underway regarding his alleged contact with Pakistani intelligence operatives; the matter came to light through his social media activity and a Telegram group. The Kalachowki unit of the ATS has registered a case against the accused under Section 196(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This section pertains to promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, language, or other factors, and disrupting social harmony: Mumbai ATS

One of the reasons for high Procedure Cost in West is that a "Use & Throw" policy for expensive angio catheters, staplers and other consumables etc. In India, the cost gets subsidised over more number of patient's. Today we have Etio and Plasma Sterilization Techniques with which thess devices become very safe to reuse. Reuse of Surgical instruments after Autoclaving/ Etio Sterilization has been happening for always and very safely. So, its not that the process of reuse and Sterilization is new or being given up totally. Single use will force hospitals to raise Package Costs. If Insurance will not cover, people will have to pay out of pocket. Someone will bear the Cost. Then there will be an uproar over charges !! Of course, it suits Medical Devices company because for them it means more sales, more profits. It will not affect Doctors because they dont decide pricing of disposables/ consumables in Hospitals. Hospitals will definitely increase prices. Now it is between Patient and Insurance Companies to decide who will pay up for "Use & Throw" policy.

The blanket ban on re-using single use medical devices addresses a symptom rather than the actual problem - hospitals overcharging for resterilized equipment. Modern sterilization technologies have long made this practice safe and effective. In fact, top tier government hospitals and premier institutes used it to subsidize care, distributing the equipment cost across multiple patients. Ethically managed centers took explicit consent beforehand, reserving new devices for those who requested them. By removing this option entirely, the government hasn't protected patients. It has taken away their autonomy and made essential medical care significantly more expensive. The only real winners here are the medical device manufacturers.
Union Health Ministry Issues Advisory Prohibiting Reuse of Single-Use Medical Devices The Union Health Ministry has issued an important advisory prohibiting the reuse of single-use medical devices and disposable surgical items in hospitals across India. @MoHFW_INDIA

I don’t think the govt has thought this through. It will lead to skyrocketing of costs of procedures that depend on these devices, from cardiac to gastroenterology and urology. Kindly reconsider this @MoHFW_INDIA

Consider the cost of an ERCP, a common gastroenterology procedure which requires sphincterotome, guide wire, stent pusher, basket at the least. The cost of an average procedure is 50-60k when these devices are reused. If everything is single use, the cost of devices itself will exceed the cost of the procedure and lead to at least a doubling of the cost to well over a lakh. In advanced laparoscopy, the harmonic scalpel is a vital device. We can use it 3-4 times and bring the cost (60k per piece) down sharply. But with this, every patient will need to be charged 60k for not the treatment but the device. It’s a windfall gain for the manufacturers but a massive jump in cost for patients and insurers. I once again request @MoHFW_INDIA @JPNadda @narendramodi to reconsider this disastrous move.

There is one more time-tested treatment for pseudomonas-infected wounds, and in fact it works beautifully even on other highly drug-resistant bacteria. It’s dirt cheap and you don’t even need to go to a pharmacy to buy it. Yes. It’s regular white cooking vinegar, 7% acetic acid.
A 72 year old man in Guntur got a knee replacement in June 2025. Within a month, the artificial joint was infected by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacterium resistant to a wide range of antibiotics, including carbapenems. Months of washouts, a spacer exchange, an arthroscopy and weeks of intravenous antibiotics followed. By Dec, his pain was 9/10. The infection kept returning. Doctors judged further surgery unsuitable given his age and condition. The team then tried bacteriophages: viruses that infect specific bacteria. For those interested in the science, this is where the work gets interesting.... Dr Sutharsan Govindarajan's phage lab at SRM University-AP tested the patient's own bacterial isolate against a panel of phages. 3 were selected and genome-sequenced. In lab tests, each phage alone initially killed bacteria, but this strain subsequently regrew. The 3 phage cocktail suppressed that regrowth. The cocktail was delivered into the infected knee through a drainage tube over 10 days. The antibiotic colistin was given alongside from day 2. Lab tests had shown that the combination worked better against this strain than either treatment alone. - On day 6, colistin was stopped after kidney function worsened. The phage treatment continued. - By day 10, tests of the joint fluid no longer detected the resistant bacterium. Pain had fallen from 9 to 2-3, and the man could walk independently again. His inflammation marker returned to normal a few days after treatment ended. - At 6 months, he remained antibiotic-free with no recurrence reported. A joint-fluid culture in June 2026 showed no growth of the pathogen. The clinical team was led by Dr Kalyan Chakravarthy Koganti at Samishta Hospital (SHRI), Guntur. The authors describe this as, to their knowledge, India's 1st reported successful phage treatment of a carbapenem-resistant prosthetic joint infection. Bharat is rising. 🙏🙏 Source: B. Several research papers back acetic acid as an effective local therapy for nasty drug resistant bugs and especially pseudomonas, in concentrations from 0.5% to 10%. In fact number 4 is a study of acetic acid use in infected orthopaedic wounds, which are notoriously tough to eradicate. 1. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/article… 2. sciencedirect.com/science/ar… 3. dermatologytimes.com/view/ac… 4. ijos.co.in/archive/volume/7/…
