Worst part of the Halloween season by far is putting the fentanyl and razor blades in the Snickers. It's so much work and I feel like the kids never even notice anyway. Not sure I'll even bother this year.

sorry but this isn’t real. it’s free to invite a friend over to your house. yes there’s a very serious affordability crisis but a lot of you would rather scroll on your phone than be with other people.
We CANNOT even afford hobbies. We CANNOT afford to go out with friends. We CANNOT afford to exist anywhere outside our homes. They then call it a mental health crisis. It's not. It's an affordability crisis.

It’s going to get worse but we are rapidly becoming a society of two types of people, ones who can function normally the way people have for thousands of years, and the other who have intellectually neutered themselves in the delusional belief that it is to become more efficient
So the people that are anti AI, do you like, not use AI at all??? Like not using it for generative art, and paying artists, I understand, but you're behinnnndddd if you refuse to touch it

The literacy crisis isn’t that people can’t read the words. It’s that they can’t understand the context, infer meaning, recognise nuance, identify contradictions, or draw logical conclusions from what they’ve read

As suspected this woman kicks ass
Piers Morgan: "If you became a politician, would you carry on drinking beer, or would you give it up, do you think?" Jaime West: "I don't know, why don't you ask Pete Hegseth, who is drinking whiskey as he's running an illegal war? Why don't you ask him that?"

YOU'RE NOT PAYING TAXES FOR THE PROPERTY, YOU'RE PAYING YOUR TOWN FOR THE SERVICES IT PROVIDES. THE ROADS, POLICE, SCHOOLS, FIRE DEPARTMENT, LIBRARY, SNOW PLOWS, EMERGENCY SERVICES AND SO MUCH MORE.
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century. politico.com/news/magazine/2…

cell phones aren’t druglike, they’re carlike. even if you consciously want to opt out, you can’t, because everyone expects you to have and use one to interact with society. i cannot even use the laundry machines in my building without being forced to use the laundry app.
Cell phone addiction is an absolute thermonuke to the brain and nobody 'takes it seriously' because it is not clear that there is any solution in a world where the revealed preference of everyone across the globe, regardless of income, race, age, any factor whatsoever, would rather be on their phone than do *anything* else. Deciding "I use this too much" and meaningfully altering one's behaviour doesn't seem to have much success for any of the very small minority of people with the sentience or self-reflection to realize how bad it is. Most people seem to think of it as an unproductive habit at most, rather than an addiction. Any attempt to speak seriously about this is met with derision, accusations of pretentiousness. There is no real solution to it. The future of human cognition fifty years down the line is horrifying if you stop and think about it for even a moment.

I think it's really sad and damaging to tell teenagers that it "gets worse" once they become adults. Because it doesn't. My life got significantly better once I got out of the house and became financially independent. I'm in a significantly better headspace than I was at 16.

That’s prob how they found the food kitchen! It’s how ppl look for jobs, buy things, for banking…EVERYTHING requires a phone, an email account and 2 step verification. Sell the phone, food for a week then what? Back at the food kitchen with no way to function in modern society.
Waiting to serve at our local food kitchen and all the people waiting to eat a free meal have a phone?

Criminals have been exploiting outdated EBT card technology to steal SNAP benefits from unsuspecting low-income families. Since December 2024, the victims of this theft have had no recourse & federal action to prevent it has largely stalled — for a deeply infuriating reason:

Troy Jackson delivers a powerful closing statement: Johan Sebastián Garrero went to work in Biddeford, Maine, and didn’t come home that day because of ICE and its reckless actions. “Senator Collins paid for the bullets at Donald Trump’s command. Now she wants credit for not pulling the trigger.” Maine deserves a senator who will stand up to Trump, not one who just feigns concern.

Nothing *new* to say about this, but I truly hate how we've surrendered our phones to scammers who dial until they find someone with dementia. I accidentally click "answer" and my support for a humane justice system vanishes; I start looking up "most painful execution methods"

Q: If the president requests American ground troops in Iran, will you support that deployment even if it means more American casualties? MIKE COLLINS: *dissembles, doesn't answer question* OSSOFF: The question was about the war in Iran. He's perfectly happy to send other people's children to die in war

Sorry but to me age gap is not a thing when a woman is 30+ years old. We have to be careful not to infantilise a very grown ass woman. We know why he’s there that’s a given loooool but she’s 30 not 21.
She’s 31 he is 51 years, old enough to be her father, how did he even approach her

My theory on books is that they will find you when it is time for you to read them. If a book has sat on your shelf unread for 15 years, the time has not yet come for you to read it.
it’s funny how sometimes you buy a book, then read it in two days, and sometimes you buy a book and it lives on your bookshelf for 15 years.
