No condemnation from the political and societal class in India for brutal murder of reportedly 6 people, two of whom were children, one of whom was 8-month old child in Manipur because you see them as a mere statistic and they don’t have the money to pay to people to raise their voices for justice.

A May 3 special on #Manipur by Patricia Mukhim @meipat needs some debunking.
She writes, "Justice is what eludes the Kuki-Zo community, who have been at the receiving end of the conflict."
Here's what you missed out on, Patricia.
* From May 3, 2023, to April 27, 2024, 102 Meiteis and 114 Kukis lost their lives. The difference between the two is very small. The largest Meitei village, Khumujamba Leikai in Churachandpur, has been completely destroyed.
* What about Kuki terrorists who have been attacking Meitei minorities in the Kuki-dominated hills, sparking retaliatory attacks.These attacks have resulted in the destruction of 4792 houses. By using propaganda, any Meitei retaliation is portrayed as an attack on minorities.
* The violence erupted on May 3 from Churachandpur, a Kuki-Zo dominated area when the All Tribal Students' Union took out a Tribal Solidarity Rally.
* So, how did the Kukis end up on the receiving end of this conflict when they initiated it on May 3?

What about focusing on the Meiteis too who are restricted from venturing beyond Kangpokpi into the hills? They have stakes and livelihoods in those areas.

How ironical that Patricia does not highlight the paradox of Mizoram. The shared Zo identity sees Mizos offering hospitality to Chin and Kuki-Chin refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh. However, this same hospitality isn't extended to the Chakmas, who are concentrated in the south of Mizoram, bordering the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh to the West and the Chin and Arakan provinces of Myanmar to the East. Despite the humanitarianism and goodwill shown by Chakmas, Mizo groups like the Young Mizo Association and Mizo Zirlai Pawl have raised slogans labelling Chakmas as illegal foreigners and demanding their expulsion from Mizoram. This information comes from a report by The Centre for Governance Studies.
Such write ups from senior journalists appear opportunistic and insensitive.
Agree with her point, though, that we have not learnt the art of political dialogue.

I think they won’t care much about the impact as for them it is just another transit of migration. Once they are done with it, they will migrate to another healthy place and settle there until they exploit it completely before moving on to another.

On the evening of May 2, a Kuki couple who used to buy in pawas earlier (quarter of a kg) came and said 'eche (sister), please give 10 kg rice, five bottles oil, three biscuit cartons'. The anger, the cry for vengeance, and the cycle of violence wouldn't stop. And nobody gains. Everybody loses.
Only the growing chasm will be exploited, and is being exploited, for political gains for some in #Manipur (on both sides) and some in New Delhi and the personal gains of some deep-state actors. And then there are geopolitical interests. But all at expense of both Meitei and Kuki (#Manipur) common people. You know the story of two cats and a monkey.
Cliched it may sound, but this is an era of cooperation, not war. Today only few nations/people who think otherwise are engaging in war while the rest of the world watches in amusement or eggs on. But see the death, destruction and devastation their common people are witnessing and suffering. It will take decades for them to recover from it.
If you ask me, I'd say not govts or political leaders, but elderly mothers on both sides should establish contacts and together come forward for dialog and reconciliation and pave the way for peace and progress.

It's funny. The media calls one group "militants" in Manipur, the other "volunteers". This descriptor is reversed everyday according to who's reporting it.
Sometimes Meiteis are militants, sometimes volunteers. Sometimes Kukis are militants, sometimes volunteers. Sometimes both are simultaneously militants and volunteers, like Schrödinger's Manipur.
When anyone armed with RPGs and American assault rifles, who are not law enforcement, should really be defined as "armed groups" or "individuals".
Selective outrage is the devil.
