In Oleshky, Ukraine, thousands of people are trapped in territory occupied by the Russian army, without regular access to food and medicine. Mined areas make escape extremely dangerous: those who stay risk dying of hunger, those who try to leave risk their lives.
To draw international attention to this emergency, I have announced a hunger strike. But this battle cannot be mine alone. I call on associations, citizens, and national and local institutions to join this great nonviolent action. We must demand an immediate humanitarian truce, the entry of food and medicines, and the possibility of safely evacuating civilians who wish to leave the city.

With this mobilisation, we want to support the efforts of Pope Leo XIV and of all those who, in this moment, are doing everything possible to avert a humanitarian tragedy of enormous proportions. The people of Oleshky cannot be abandoned. It is time to act together, so that diplomacy delivers concrete results and no one is left to die in silence.

👇 I speak about it in the interview published today in La Repubblica, which you can find below.
#saveoleshky

Things go from bad to worse. Trump 🇺🇸 seems to regret that 🇷🇺 didn’t conquer 🇺🇦 immediately, and blame the failure on some incompetent 🇷🇺 general. Who feeds him this strange stuff? Or does he just invent it because he wishes it was so?

Russian tanks did use highways to Kyiv in 2022 and took heavy losses. The main reason the 40-mile convoy failed was it lacked fuel and food. Ukraine blew bridges, flooded the Irpin, and ambushed columns.

Today, together with 🇳🇴Ambassador @NorwayAmbUSA Anniken Huitfeldt, we co-hosted a briefing on the humanitarian catastrophe in #Oleshky and surrounding villages in the temporarily occupied Kherson region, for diplomats, U.S. Department of State representatives, human rights organizations, journalists, and think tanks.
Before Russia’s full-scale invasion, 25,000 people lived in Oleshky. Today, only around 2,000 remain, including 35 children. For years, they have lived without electricity, gas, heating, or water supply. No food has been officially delivered since May 26, 2026. The only supply route crosses mined territory under the threat of shelling. Ukraine has tried to reach starving residents, including by drone.
What is happening in Oleshky echoes the Holodomor of 1932–1933, the genocide committed by the Soviet regime against Ukrainians. Today, Russia is once again using starvation, destruction, and the denial of humanitarian aid as weapons against our people. These are war crimes that demand international attention and concrete action.
I am grateful to Ambassador Anniken Huitfeldt and our Norwegian partners @NorwayUS for their solidarity and co-hosting this briefing. Thank you to @avalaina and @ZarinaZabrisky for their powerful testimonies about Oleshky.
The people of Oleshky must not be forgotten. Their lives depend on international attention and action.

I will be speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team this week to discuss Starshield, sanctions, and other matters pertaining to the defense of our strong ally, Ukraine. I will be assuring President Zelenskyy that anyone who attempts to limit the use of Starshield for Ukraine will be fully investigated and will be held fully accountable, to include public congressional oversight hearings, and immediate harsh and punitive budget cuts to any responsible agency or agency head.
Congress will unequivocally reaffirm that Ukraine is an indispensable ally to the United States, that Russia is a self-declared enemy of the United States, and that the United States will 100% support and defend the people of Ukraine in their fight for their own freedom against this brutal, illegal, and unprovoked Russian invasion.
The United States must provide any and all defensive equipment that Ukraine needs to defend itself. The United States must not import a single drop of Russian oil. Sanctions against the Russian regime must be harsher and stronger than they’ve ever been before. Each and every one of these items will be brought to the House Floor—and each and every one of these items will pass on the House Floor by an overwhelming margin.
This is, after all, what Ronald Reagan would do. And this is what we will do now. Ukraine can, and will, defeat Russia. #PeaceThroughStrength

The American president thinks this is "fine"
A horrific Russian strike in the Kharkiv region. A “shahed” struck people directly – in a park near an ordinary café. Pure atrocity. Six people were killed, including children. A little girl was killed in a stroller – her name was Angelina, she was just over a year old, born in August 2025… Her mother’s name was Inna. She died in the hospital… Another girl who was killed was 11 years old. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 14 people were injured, including six more children.
I am grateful to everyone who supports Ukraine under these circumstances and helps us shoot down “shaheds,” shoot down missiles, and stop Russian assaults. These are horrific photos, but behind them are shattered lives and the truth about this war. Lives must be protected. Ukraine needs air defense. You can't think about making money with Russia as long as it continues its asinine war. We ask that sanctions on Russia stay in place as long as the killings continue. We ask America to be strong, and we ask it to apply the Lindsey Graham law. We ask Europe to continue its support. We ask that everything possible be done to bring peace and guarantee security. Ukraine wants peace. It is Russia that has insisted on continuing the killing all this time. The world has enough strength to stop the war. That strength must finally be used – against the murderers.
