As of yesterday on National Poetry Day, I have received the honour of becoming Birminghams Poet Laureate ❤️
It is humbling to be chosen to represent the city that gave me so much, the city that has moulded me,
I pray now that I am able to give back.

The killing in Small Heath is horrific, Subhanallah. That video should not be circulating, and out of respect for him and his family, I hope people stop sharing it. May Allah have mercy on his soul and grant him the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.

Great to round off my first week in Parliament with my first MP surgery in the constituency.
If you’re a constituent and there’s anything I can help you with, please email me at [email protected]
Intergenerational work always brings me joy. It reminds me that young people are leaders today, with something to contribute now.
There’s joy, too, in learning from our elders and the wisdom they carry.
Somewhere in between, we hold hands and mould a better future 🤍

Our communities belong in this conversation 💚
I’ve been recruited into the Substack cult 🤣
Jokes aside, I’ve been meaning to return to writing, and this feels like the perfect way. I’ll be sharing the lessons, questions and blessings I carry with me.

A former child refugee from Somalia who has volunteered in her community since she was a teenager is about to become an MP. Having faced rank racism both online and in person, Sagal Abdi-Wali's victory is a spit in the eye for racists everywhere

The smear campaign against Sagal has been eye-opening, especially how some political actors weaponise legitimate public concerns to vilify her.
We’re unequivocally with our sister. On the doorstep, we’ve felt real support across Camden too.
Guul, insha’Allah. Victory tonight 🫡

Still trying to understand why Polanski thinks he can beat her. Local. Articulate. Woman. Refugee heritage. Strong existing political base. Directly attacked by Reform. She's the perfect candidate for this seat. Think he's made a fatal miscalculation.
