“The difference between a world full of slop and a world full of software worth using is you” (developers) -@rauchg at Vercel Ship SF
This is actually why young people should still study the fundamentals.
The more deeply you understand things at a foundational level, the better ideas you're going to have.
You'll have AI to implement ideas for you. But without the intuition, you won't know where to direct it.
Quant firms are hiring idea guys, not quants
I've been skeptical about the whole - software is commoditized, ideas are the moat argument
But I've seen first hand the best quant and technical firms in the world hire thinkers, liberal arts grads, and generalists
I predict the trend accelerates

OpenAI is figuring out how to play nice with developer in the app layer, and it has the potential to be a beautiful thing.
OpenAI flirted with being a consumer company, but it's clear that the golden goose for them is the enterprise.
Meta has the ads platform already. Everything I'm hearing is that ChatGPT still hasn't progressed from being an experiment for the advertisers that have tried it (~9 months on).
Could OAI figure it out? Probably, if they have the will. But structurally, they're set up to win as a generational company in B2B, and I think they know that.
Instinct: I'm a guy you can message anytime and it'll do stuff. I'm free.
Muse: I'm a cute animal you can message anytime and it'll do stuff. I'm free.
Grok Bot and OAI Dots: We are a phalanx of specialists, each defined in unique ways with different strengths and weaknesses. If you roll a 7 while your Chief of Staff agent is on a red square, you lose a turn, but you can counter that with your Watchman as long as they are not sending an email at that moment. We are only available to paid users.
Boardy has consistently surprised me with how good its memory is and how much it's learning about who I want to meet.
Honestly, its memory might be the most natural feeling of any agent I've used, and with every update, it gets better and better.

This is one of the arguments against letting one or two companies own all the intelligence (and I think most of OpenAI would agree)
So many people saying that "AI can't write" are ignoring the fact that writing is so much more than picking the words that go in the final draft.
With Evernote, Airtable, and now Miro, Bending Spoons could have an interesting little productivity suite if that were the sort of thing they did.
BREAKING: we've officially entered a deal to acquire Miro for $1.355B! 😍
Ben Thompson's two laws of consumer tech:
1) Consumers do not want to pay for software.
2) Consumers do not care about being productive.
Meta's huge advantage is that they own the ad platform.
Forget Instinct, OpenAI has taken so long to deliver on ads that Muse could actually just win the consumer market.
So it turns out Kevin Durant didn't actually invest GitHub for AI models. He invested in a Tamagotchi app.
I agree with @jasonlk’s take, but my bull case is even simpler: if @linear made a Slack competitor, I would switch immediately. Same goes for Notion, Gmail, calendar, and pretty much any other productivity app I can think of. They’re just so good.
The Bull Case for Linear Being a $100BN Company:
"Linear is the clear winner.
They have built an agentic product first that allows us to build 100x more software, and that means 100x more features than ever before.
Humans cannot keep up with it, and humans still have to work with agents. If every human on your team's gonna build 500 features and 1,000 issues and you have 10 people on your team, you need a process and a system of record for managing all these issues with your agents.
We need a new system of record for it.
The team at Linear has figured it out. We have seen an explosion, 50x more agent usage than 90 days ago.
This will seem cheap when Replit's at $15BN, Lovable's at $100BN, because Linear will be the one powering them all". @jasonlk
Love to hear your thoughts, what is your bull case for Linear @karrisaarinen @stephzhan @adambain @dickc @soleio @zoink @Mkclements

Has anyone used this model? Has Zoom shipped a model since then?
Zoom achieved a new state-of-the-art (SOTA) result on Humanity’s Last Exam (HLE): 48.1% — outperforming other AI models with a 2.3% jump over the previous SOTA. ✨
HLE is one of the most rigorous tests in AI, built to measure real expert-level knowledge and deep reasoning across complex problems.
What that means for you:
✅ More accurate summaries
✅ Better reasoning
✅ More powerful automation in AI Companion 3.0
