America watched a Red Baron employee’s smile disappear, and suddenly tens of thousands of people wanted to help him. Now I want to ask a question that might make some people uncomfortable. Over the past couple of days, a video involving Walt, a hardworking Red Baron employee, has been circulating across X. I watched it. I watched Walt smile at the stranger who approached him. I watched that smile disappear after the man apparently deceived him. And then I watched something heartbreaking unfold. Walt began revealing the struggles he’d been carrying quietly. The mortgage he was struggling to pay. The time he was missing with his children. The relentless pressure of working to provide for his family while barely keeping his head above water. That smile at the beginning of the video stayed with me. Because how many Americans walk around wearing that same smile while their lives are quietly falling apart? Now people are rallying around Walt, raising money to help him and his family. I wholeheartedly support it. I hope his mortgage gets paid, his family finds some financial breathing room, and he experiences an extraordinary outpouring of kindness. But here’s what I want America to think about. According to the CDC, approximately 155 million emergency department visits occur annually in the United States. That’s roughly 425,000 visits every single day. Among those patients are countless hardworking Americans living with chronic pain and chronic illness. Mothers. Fathers. Veterans. People with mortgages, overdue bills, children depending on them, and careers they’ve fought desperately to maintain. Some are still working through unimaginable pain. Others have lost their livelihoods entirely. They arrive at emergency departments frightened, exhausted, and vulnerable. Some have spent years fighting to be heard, fighting to be diagnosed, fighting simply to have their suffering believed. And some will encounter skepticism, judgment, or dismissal at the very moment they need compassion most. Think about that. Walt’s suffering was exposed in front of a stranger holding a camera. For a chronically ill patient, that same vulnerability may be exposed in front of a physician or nurse standing beside a hospital bed. The circumstances are different. The humanity is the same. I know there are extraordinary healthcare professionals who show up every day with genuine compassion. I’ve never questioned that. But we cannot ignore the patients who are humiliated, dismissed, or made to feel that their suffering is an inconvenience. Behind those hospital curtains are people carrying the same burdens that brought Americans to tears watching Walt’s video. They have families. They have financial obligations. They have dreams interrupted by circumstances they never chose. And some are fighting battles far beyond what anyone can see. Why does it sometimes take a viral video for us to recognize the suffering of a stranger, while someone lying helpless in a hospital bed must fight just to be believed? Walt deserves every ounce of support he’s receiving. I’ll gladly contribute to his cause. I simply want us to extend that same humanity to the chronic pain and chronic illness communities, especially when they’re at their most vulnerable. Because compassion shouldn’t depend on whether someone’s suffering was captured on camera. America, we’ve demonstrated that we’re capable of extraordinary empathy. Now imagine what would happen if we practiced it when nobody was watching.
This broke me. Find this man. Find him and I will personally fundraise for him.

Need to try this out
Got early access to SubQ Snap by @alex_whedon and spent the last bit building SnapShift with it. @subquadratic snap reads the entire chat on every turn. messages, PDFs, images, whole github repos, up to 384k tokens and just decides what the UI should be: chart, map, checklist, whatever. no chunking, no summarizing the context away first. I ran a 171k token turn (big pdf + a full repo) and it decided in ~2-3 seconds which is crazy and costs like 1.5 cents only. it also correctly pulls the exact file or image from way earlier in the history, and the multimodal stuff actually works when the important detail is only in a screenshot. This is the first decision model i’ve used where long context stays fast and cheap instead of turning into a mess. Jev isn’t close. repo: github.com/anishfn/snapshift snap: subq.ai

Who needs napalm in the morning when you can get the wet dry cleaning smell in the evening. Cleaners are going to be busy this week.

Excited to join forces with @ashxhart and @volatilemarkts to push local AI forward. IMO TensorFold could become the "iPhone moment" for local AI. It beats both vLLM and SGLang on what matters the most: speed. Alongside Ash, I'll do everything in my power to improve it and make it the best engine on the market, together with the best recipes for getting the most out of it. I'll finish with something my father used to tell me many times: "If it's a problem, it can be solved. If it can't be solved, then it's not a problem." Local AI for all!
I’m incredibly proud to announce that @volatilemarkts and @MiaAI_lab are officially joining me on TensorFold. Watching this project grow so quickly has been surreal, and I’m hugely grateful to everyone contributing PRs, testing builds and sharing feedback. TensorFold is becoming more than one person can maintain alone, and Mia will help us build recipes and engine improvements. Volatile Markets will help with engine improvements as well as shape the project’s direction. They’re both brilliant people who have supported me for a long time, and I feel incredibly privileged to have them alongside me for this next chapter. LOCAL AI WILL WIN!!!

Research from @TAMUArtSci's Heather Lench found that holding a pencil in your mouth activates the same facial muscles as smiling, and since your brain can't tell the difference between a real smile and a forced one, that simple act alone can make you feel happier. Feeling down? Give it a try. Learn more: tx.ag/WOInpqR #TAMU #AggieResearch #TAMUArtSci

It takes a while to build the confidence, but there's no future where you're manually reviewing every line of agent code. Not much acceleration in that. You need adversarial agent reviews, you need automated testing, and maybe you spot check. That's it. From prompt to production!

Every couple years since ~2021 the internet tries to label me a “white supremacist.” This week is one of those weeks. This is your semiannual reminder if I’m a white supremacist, I’m really really bad at it.
