The data center backlash is huge. But the boom is bigger. Even as local bans mount, capacity keeps expanding at a dizzying pace. And that's not changing anytime soon. The buildout will continue until morale improves (or demand for compute collapses) vox.com/politics/501146/data…

Trump’s midterms plan: drop $400 million on self-promotion. The president could use his vast super-PAC stash to boost GOP candidates. But it seems he’d rather buy ads touting his dubious accomplishments. nymag.com/intelligencer/arti…

Once again, the Way Back Machine is the only thing protecting an enormous amount of important work from oblivion — unless media orgs commit to preserving archives no matter what, and/or allow/help others to do that. The Internet should not just be ephemeral.
It's likely not going to have everything (and the interactivity that you got used on on 538 is likely not duplicated) - but the Way Back Machine has a lot of the 538 content archived. 183K snapshots starting back in 2008

Wow.
I built a dashboard to explore the last 25+ years of @nytimes coverage. 1.5B words, 2.2M articles, 26K reporters. It's fascinating to look at the world’s preeminent news organization not as daily stories but as patterns of attention, ebbing and flowing. tedalcorn.github.io/nyt/

A US blockade, if actually enforced, would mean fewer ships going through Hormuz, not more. I broke it down for @NYMag.

A must-watch interview cnn.com/2026/04/03/tv/video/…
“With everything we do, we are undercutting the laws of war,” says former NSC official Gary Sick. At 91, he reflects, “I would never have believed that we would find ourselves in the position that we’re in, as the rogue nation in the world.”

I was interviewed by @realaxelfoley from @NYMag on Trump’s military options in Iran. All are ugly and unlikely to end the war. There is no “escalate-to-deescalate” option. Putting boots on the ground to extract Iran’s HEU is the *worst* option of all. @defpriorities nymag.com/intelligencer/arti…

this is so very sad - ive subscribed to the newsletter for such a long time now with so many others, been such an avid reader, to not see it land anymore is... gutting
I have been laid off today from the @washingtonpost, along with most of the International staff and so many other wonderful colleagues. I’m heartbroken for our newsroom and especially for the peerless journalists who served the Post internationally — editors and correspondents who have been my friends and collaborators for almost 12 years. It’s been an honor to work with them. I launched the WorldView column in January 2017 to help readers better understand the world and America’s place in it and I’m grateful for the half a million loyal subscribers who tuned into the column several times a week over the years.

A number of scoops & new details in here, including Mace having staffers make booze runs for her after midnight earlier in her career. She also made the staff clean her Airbnbs. But that all pales in comparison to what my sources see in public lately. nymag.com/intelligencer/arti…

Reminder of Trump’s idea of “helping” Iranians: visa bans, asylum shutoffs, deportations back to Iran, and a crushing economic siege since 2018 that has devastated ordinary people. Forgive anyone for doubting the sincerity.

🚨Update: Rumors are coming out of Iran that the Ayatollah was killed by rioters and rebellious troops!
