These dangerous individuals are not gate-kept. They have no PPE from Oxford.
Laura Kuenssberg: "Is it for people who are singers, songwriters, artists to be taking public positions on very very controversial, difficult, complicated issues"
THE most stupid, ridiculous, uninformed, ignorant question I have ever heard.

Very important the mairie gets on top of this. It’d be disastrous for the city if it became the capital of chikungunya in France. #vieljeux

Thanks Clive! The default position among a lot of my political friends these days is let it burn. But another BBC is possible.
The BBC stands at a crossroads. It is facing financial pressures and governance issues. It’s at risk of losing legitimacy in the eyes of the public.
The BBC Charter Review could be a moment of renewal. But right now, the Government is only offering tinkering.
I’m proud to have spoken at the Media Reform Coalition’s launch of the ‘BBC Charter Review: Alternative Green Paper’.
The Alternative Green Paper brings together a collection of transformative proposals for creating a more democratic, independent, accountable and sustainable BBC.
For the sake of democratic renewal, we need an independent and properly funded BBC. We need a BBC that is governed in way that reflects the public, and not the government of the day.

Never any contrition, let alone accountability, for politicians & 'opinion formers' in this country.
My feeling is that in places like Bristol and London there will Labour losses to leftish alternatives like the Greens and in places like Middlesbrough they’ll lose to Reform.
On the train from Darlington to London and I’ve noticed that I am the only person in the carriage reading a book. @pawboy2 ‘s brilliant Fassbinder Thousands of Mirrors. Nearly everyone else is staring at their phone. (Will it be the same on the Eurostar?)
Fantastic interview by @markcousinsfilm with David Lynch, on BBC4 tonight. Loved the way it demanded honesty from
Lynch in a gentle but firm way. Loved all of these interviews back in the day. (I remember one with RP was quite spiky).

British experimental filmmaker and artist Malcolm Le Grice (1940-2024) has passed away.
Extract from his beautiful Berlin Horse (1970)
In my experience the current trend amongst defenders of capitalism is to try to not even mention the word or sneer at or decry its use. Perhaps there’s a fear of really acknowledging what it is, a disavowal in psychoanalytic terms.
In the summer of 2024 there were fascist riots in Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough’s Muslims had to run for their lives and had their shops and houses attacked. There was lots of other damage including cars being burnt out and fascists actually entering people’s homes and threatening

The arsonists last night destroyed a Citizens Advice Bureau.
For those outside the UK, that's a place where the British public, particularly low income or disadvantaged communities, get free legal advice and support.
Staff are devastated.
