Isoleucine is an essential amino acid which, in excess, counters the health benefits of the mTOR longevity pathway. The @LammingLab is reporting that an isoleucine-restricted diet extends the lifespan of mice by 33% 👏 @Cell_Metabolism

Factors that accelerate epigenetic aging: 1. Smoking (worst) 2. Alcohol intake 3. Waist size 4. Body fat 5. CRP (inflammation) 6. Triglycerides 7. Childhood obesity 8. Type 2 diabetes (Alcohol is turning out to be more toxic than we thought. Sorry) academic.oup.com/biomedgeron…

Ovarian aging predicts aging rates in other tissues. Women reaching menopause before 40 are 2x as likely to die early than those reaching it between 50-54. Reversing ovarian aging may help reverse overall aging. In mice we’ve done it. Let’s give women the option ⬇️

Reducing the levels of epigenome-altering RNA from selfish genetic elements called LINE-1s, reverses DNA methylation age and extends the lifespan of prematurely aging mice. Could this be a way to reverse normal aging? science.org/doi/10.1126/scit…

What is consciousness? New research in epileptics with electrodes planted deep in the brain shows that we still hear sounds while asleep, but we don’t process the information because we’ve activated alpha-beta waves. So cool 😎 tinyurl.com/2p9xfj68

Check out our latest preprint on why so many cells still have m6A after METTL3 knockout! Congratulations @HuiXianPoh!
Super excited to share my preprint discussing the source of "METTL3-independent" m6A! We often see that m6A remains after knocking out METTL3. Where is this m6A coming from? (1/2)

Very interesting study that brings needed attention to unintended immunogenicity of fluorophores and exogenous proteins. However, we should be careful extrapolating these results to other mouse strains and models, particularly C57BL/6. My thoughts: 🧵1/12
