What a great appointment. Just what this fine orchestra is crying out for.

This book means more to me than any other I have written. I want to get copies into the hands of everyone who cares about opera or is interested in the broader cultural history of our country. Great reviews in The Observer, New Statesman, Engelsberg Ideas, Opera, Country Life!
SOMEONE ELSE’S MUSIC: Opera and the British by @amwilson_opera is out now!
Essential reading for anybody who wants to understand the debates we are having today in the UK about arts funding, accessibility, and who the opera is ‘for’.

This interview by @chiggi with Tracey Emin is really a masterclass in arts journalism. She provides content, structure and the space for Emin to breathe, elucidate, be without ever clumsily inserting herself. It is just brilliant theguardian.com/artanddesign…
Just caught up with this @bbcproms. What a gorgeous piece - wonderfully performed by the incomparable Allan Clayton
Allan Clayton's world premiere of Tom Coult's Monologues for the Curious last night at @bbcproms, with John Storgårds and BBC Philharmonic, is now online at @BBCSounds.

So sorry to hear that Roger Norrington has died. Happy memories of wonderful projects with @theoae. A real pioneer. I will never forget the impact of those Beethoven symphony recordings.

Commentators pretending to believe that Glyndebourne's wind turbine is at fault for failing to compensate for multiple power cuts on Saturday.
We rely on the grid to operate. The turbine keeps the bills down.
One adds: "you could not make it up".
Reader, they made it up.
Thank you for all your lovely comments. So fortunate to have worked with brilliant colleagues @bbcproms @glyndebourne @theoae
Congratulations to @davidpickard23, Director of the #BBCProms from 2015 - 2024, who has been awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours 2025 for services to music.

A momentous day at the BBC, as we bid farewell to this remarkable woman. Forty years’ service to @BBCRadio3 and the @bbcproms, working with five Controllers — all of whom, bar the late Sir John Drummond, joined us tonight. Here’s to you, Yvette: you’ve been amazing!

Florence + The Machine at the Proms - Lungs is still to this day one of my favourite albums and this is simply sensational. #BBCProms
My last day @bbcproms today. I reckon this is a pretty good summary of the past 9 years of my life.
