One perk of working at @IsraelPolicy4m is watching @mkoplow keep people from getting lost in translation.
Hebrew is hard. Understanding Israel is harder.
After October 7, the Israeli election shouldn’t be close, yet the likeliest scenario is deadlock. Bibi’s staying power is partially because of splits in the opposition, but also because many Israelis think he’s delivering what he long promised nytimes.com/2026/10/26/opini…
Rose and I looked at where Trump’s 20-point plan stands a year on. Phase I delivered the hostages and a ceasefire framework that is being challenged on daily basis. The harder parts—disarmament, alternative governance, and reconstruction—are stalled mainly by the Israel-Hamas sequencing fight, not by a lack of international architecture or technical planning.
One year later, Trump’s Gaza plan has stalled. IPF Senior Policy Analyst @drothem and Policy and Government Relations Associate Rose Goldstein examine obstacles to governance, disarmament, and reconstruction—and prospects for progress.

We are deeply saddened by the death of our friend Aziz Alghashian (@AzizAlghashian). Aziz was one of the leading researchers of Saudi-Israel relations and a genuine bridge-builder who dedicated his life and his work to fostering greater understanding and tolerance in the Middle East and beyond. He was a well-known presence in Washington, where many relied on his insights and expertise, and he was always willing and eager to engage with everyone with respect and good humor. He will be sorely missed, both as a scholar and as a friend.
Below is a photo of Aziz (left) speaking alongside IPF's @dhalperin and @ReichmanShanie at Central Synagogue in NYC in June 2025.

With polling indicating an indecisive result in Israel’s October election, the results and coalition-formation options will turn on a few key factors. One is the 3.25% electoral threshold, namely which smaller parties cross it or fall below, effectively burning their votes. 🧵
