Should we be viewing medicine as more of a job and less of a profession or a “calling”? A question that’s been on my mind a lot recently.
Do trainees and physicians get taken advantage of more often by the healthcare system simply bc this is a “profession” we signed up for?

Welcome to Texas. Today abortion, a medical procedure, is now a felony. Punishable with up to life in prison. No exceptions for rape or incest. If you don’t think this will seriously impact medical care, you are wrong.

Offenses for which a person should/could be arrested should not = a death sentence before trial.
#RayshardBrooks was shot in the back.
In the back.
The case should go to trial.
My heart goes out to his family.
Breaking News: A special prosecutor dropped charges against the police officer who fatally shot Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old Black man, outside an Atlanta Wendy's in 2020. The prosecutor said the officer and another on the scene “committed no crimes.” nyti.ms/3QK8olt

If we cancel all student debt, ppl will want medical debt forgiven. If we cancel medical debt, they're going to want free healthcare. If we give them that, they'll want us to house the homeless. Then everyone's going to want a living wage. The whole society will fall apart.

If you don’t want to do abortions then OB/GYN is not for you. If you are against abortion then medicine is not for you. That’s what I want to see from our professional societies. Fin.

Abortion is not just health care, it is a human right. Beyond infringing on bodily autonomy, there are conditions in pregnancy that result in death without safe abortion care. This is a calling for all in medicine to stand on the side of justice nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NE…

THREAD: As cops try to spin Uvalde as one bad choice by a bad police commander from a brand new small “cowardly” police department, please remember these facts:

If you make a medical student feel bad for not knowing something on rounds, they’re not wrong, you are.
They've been doing this for weeks, you've been doing this for years to decades.
And if they knew everything you know, you wouldn't need to be there. #MedTwitter

IM taught me habits that ended up being really important
1. Whenever you check calcium immediately after check albumin, just make it a habit to check them at the same time.
2. ALWAYS compare labs to patient baseline
3. Read the previous note, but verify info w/pt

Tessalon is on the “one pill can kill list” for peds - my guess is that risk plus the lack of widespread knowledge of that is a at least part of the reason to restrict to prescription only.
It’s very important to counsel pts on this before rx’ing and assess for children in home

Heathcare providers: quit sharing vulnerable and deeply private medical stories about people and their abortions. Those aren't our stories to tell. All people deserve access to safe, accessible abortions, not just those someone deems as "worthy."
