there are about 3.6 million calories in a mammoth, or roughly 2,000 human days worth of calories in one mammoth
i love grocery shopping in person so much. my ancient ancestors probably never saw this many calories cumulatively in their lifetime. i feel like a god.

boys are so funny, my 3-year-old son just said "fight the fire truck with a spear!" they long to pursue megafauna on the steppes

wrote this late and threw a photo on it without really thinking, scrolled across it now and realized that view won’t be at all the same for the rest of my life
people think they’ll be amazing in an emergency, or under pressure in an unexpected situation which, if you happen to be fully rested, in the proper headspace, not tired from a long day and sober may even be the case that’s frequently not how these things find you I was up at our ranch fighting wildfires for a week this summer, we got a very unexpected evacuation alert (demand) from our neighbour at 10 pm one night. The fire had jumped the road and we had minutes, not hours to get out or risk being trapped down our very long driveway with no option but to take shelter in the river and pray we’d just worked a gruelling 12+ hour day, hadn’t gotten much sleep the previous two nights, we’d eaten dinner and had a couple of drinks and bed was calling when we heard a quad pull up and were told to get out now in addition to the lack of sleep, lack of energy and couple of drinks it caught me off guard, my mindset was fully in rest mode, not go time. I distinctly remember thinking ‘this isn’t a good time for this’, like the fire cared I was tired and had just downed a jack and coke x2 the moment the neighbour drove away I could feel that fight or flight adrenaline kicking in and my decision making, communication and motor skills were all degraded everything necessary got done and done quickly, we got out in plenty of time and shortly after learned the neighbour had been in a bad situation at a friends place on the other side of the road just prior and had jumped the gun on the evac warning, everything was okay for the time being but I hadn’t performed how I’d have liked to, and if we had been caught up in a real immediate situation that required more of us I wasn’t confident in my ability to adequately respond what’s the lesson? For me the lesson was don’t count on being 100%. Don’t asses risk based on the idea that you’ll be at your best when you need to do hard things and be decisive don’t use your best day to plan for your worst

I’d maybe have kept my gear a little more organized, I’d maybe have had one drink instead of two, but mostly I think I’d be more mentally prepared. Been ready for an emergency in a situation where I knew full well there could be one at any time.

That’s a relatively easy solution in that specific situation. It’s more difficult to find a solution for your every day life.

you can use Ai for writing if you prompt it well and are willing to edit after you can’t give it a lazy prompt with no associated planning and copy/paste it direct to your output which is what 97% of people try and do
I find it significant that the most AI-pilled people I know use AI for basically everything…except for writing It’s remarkably consistent. Why? Because to write is to think. And outsourcing your critical thinking to AI is intellectual suicide

Seeing people talk about this plane crash has convinced me how 930 people could be persuaded to drink cyanide laced Flavor Aid.

Notice that the blue whale, greatest amongst the cetaceans, possessing prodigious size and majesty to match, famed for its ponderous yet gentle temperament, is actually a hypercarnivore whose body is an engine for the genocide of countless shrimp: The Anti-Effective-Altruist.

Europe has developed a pretty interesting definition of “protecting democracy.” 🇷🇴 Romania annulled a presidential election after Călin Georgescu finished first, then barred him from the rerun. 🇭🇺 Hungary’s new government rewrote the constitution with retroactive limits that block Viktor Orbán from becoming PM again and later approved rules barring long-serving MPs from the next parliamentary election. 🇩🇪 Germany’s domestic intelligence service classified the AfD as extremist, opening the door to much heavier surveillance of the country’s biggest opposition party. 🇫🇷 France upheld Marine Le Pen’s conviction, kept restrictions on her political future and ordered her to wear an electronic ankle tag. 🇪🇸 In Spain, more than a dozen people tied to Pedro Sánchez’s political and personal circle have been investigated or prosecuted in separate corruption cases, while Sánchez himself has not been charged. 🇬🇧 Britain postponed local elections during a sweeping reorganization of local government, triggering a petition accusing the government of voter suppression. 🇵🇱 And now Poland has police surrounding its Constitutional Tribunal while the government and opposition accuse each other of trying to seize control of the court. The real red line in Europe may not be democracy... It may be leaving the club. Writer: Sol

asking Claude to put “fresh eyes” on something and having it spin up three agents to run three different reviews is an insane capability

“Okay, out of an abundance of caution can you get some fresh eyes on it? Let’s really make sure this is the plan we want to start the build with.” no other prompting and it ran a red team, a security review and a CTO lens fucking bonkers

gemini argon, in the middle of the message, will make a human researcher level ‘jump’ that other models miss and that routinely genuinely impress me. i think google figured something out the other labs lack. unironically, fully, this model has Sparks Of Something Great.
