We thought we had seen it all… But watching #CNN pretend Donald Trump invented the tax code is surreal. Congress wrote the conservation easement in 1980. Almost every country club in Palm Beach County employs lawyers who leverage the exact same statute. And not one of them got a 180-page investigation. The easement was donated in December. The story dropped 15 days before the midterms. That’s not journalism. That is a political attack framed as news, and aimed directly at an audience that has never heard of a conservation easement, in an effort to leave the uninitiated believing President Trump invented it. If golf-course easements are bad policy, Fine….say so—and apply it to all of them. What you can’t do is call a 45-year-old law a “scheme” solely because a president they don’t like uses it, This is another example of why trust in legacy media is at an all-time low.
