I may be misreading this, but I like the idea of someone who has never in their entire life heard any other music apart from Bee Thousand and is now, hundreds of plays and years of listening, wanting to listen to something else.
this is the most basic music request of all time but I'd love to find more music than this, I already know some examples but maybe you guys have something niche

This might be of some interest. I had Allen Ravenstine on my radio show back in 2018 for an interview. iirc, plenty of Ubu talk. wfmu.org/playlists/shows/816…

my all time favorite band by some margin, and I have never been able to convince anyone I know to listen to them past a few songs; doesn’t help that their most accessible (in relative terms) albums are not in print/not streaming
like every 10 years i'm like "what's the deal with Pere Ubu, what was up with that band" and then I listen and it's a guy talking about birdies in a squeaky voice and meowing and yelping while the rest of the band does annoying stuff and i'm like "oh that's right"

On pro wrestling terminology, specifically (and I apologize in advance, to all of you and to myself most of all) "technical wrestling".

The thing about most '90s indie rock and related is that it wasn't dominated by theater kids. That hasn't been the case for about twenty years now, fifteen if I'm being generous. Kill the theater kid inside your head, then the rock will flow forth.

verdict definitively that this isn't true (maybe op is just making things up): at my Northeastern college radio station in the mid-90s, GBV were up there with Pavement, Archers of Loaf, and Afghan Wigs as the Mount Rushmore of contemporary indie rock; not a joke at all
one of the things I remember hearing from Gen X-ers who were deep in the 90s indie scene was that Guided By Voices was considered kind of a joke band back then. Like wow these middle aged alcoholics really think they're The Who, isn't that wacky

definitely true
an extremely important thing to keep in mind about Gen Xers who were deep in 90s music scenes is that they had highly subjective experiences that severely overindexed the opinions of random assholes they knew, observations like this are not reliable

Much truth to this. So much that is weird about American comics is that they’ve stuck to presentation, publication, distribution, and marketing decisions that made all the sense in the world in 1963, but stopped making sense circa 1980.
Every time I say this comic nerds get really mad at me but the reason manga took off so hard and American comics are dying is because a manga series starts at vol 1 and goes to vol 2 and then vol 3

I wasn’t excited about the Clockwork Carnage thing until the last angle of the show last night when it became clear what it would mean to have all those guys in the ring at the same time.
Tony Khan is really running Will Ospreay vs Kazuchika Okada vs Samoa Joe vs Edge vs Ricochet vs Konosuke Takeshita vs Darby Allin vs Speedball Mike Bailey for the AEW World Championship with an Ilja Dragunov appearance loaded casually. Does anyone else think about this stuff? Like what the fuck 😭😭

haha - though I do think that setting it up this way in advance gives a lot of flexibility with the booking that you wouldn’t have if the best of 5 expectation was not in place going into it

"Performative reading"... "People act like watching older movies automatically makes their taste superior"... Yeah, man, everybody's probably just doing things so they can impress the dumbest guys on the planet.

It seems that Bill Krohn is no longer with us. His piece on Allan Dwan, 'The Cliff and the Flume,' I count among the masterpieces of film criticism. RIP. sensesofcinema.com/2003/feat…

Two quick pages on well, on this, right? On the fact people are seeing these qualifier matches and immediately making snarky (and smarky) comments, and how that's on both the company and on the fans. And how getting past it is both difficult and a contradiction in some ways.

For real though, @MarcusMathers1 deserves the world. One of the most professional and talented young wrestlers I've had the pleasure of working with. Promotions in Mexico, Japan, etc would be foolish not to bring him in for long tours while he's available. Won't last.

thing about a guy like Erick Bradshaw is that, while he is more of an agressive hater than I will ever be, he does more for lesser known bands than most of us on here... and he puts out weird cool experimental shit, so ya know. priorities!
